Just before our road trip, we went to the Game of Thrones Live Concert Experience at Key Arena in Seattle.

The GoT Live Concert Experience is the brainchild of famed composer Ramin Djawadi, who had composed all of the music for Game of Thrones. His other musical compositions include Pacific Rim, Iron Man, Prison Break and Westworld.

Before the show

We had no idea what to expect when we arrived at the venue, since I had bought the tickets months before its debut. Upon arriving at the venue, we found ourselves in stellar seats, 5 rows from the stage!

Concept of the live concert experience

The live concert experience kicked off with the title sequence of Game of Thrones. The big screens in front of us projected the usual opening credits to GoT and the beautiful music was played by a full live orchestra on stage.

It didn’t take long to grasp the concept of the show — The full orchestra played along as clips from the show’s six seasons were shown on giant screens up above. The video montage took the audience through some of the most important scenes and points of the story. It was amazing to me how much the live music really brought back vivid memories and emotions that I had felt from several seasons ago.

During several poignant moments of the show, special stage effects such as snow or tree leaves (in the form of confetti) and real fire were also introduced to help immerse the audience in the story and the music. Those moments were definitely the highlights of the concert , as they added an extra dimension to storylines that we knew and loved.

Highlights from the show

A particular beautiful moment — the violin player inside a weirtree while red confetti rained down the ceiling
Didgeridoo and other windpipe instruments were used for the Night King segments
Green smoke (wildfire) exploded on stage during the Blackwater battle scene in Season 2
My favourite part was seeing how many instruments composer Ramin Djawadi was able to play during the concert! He was consistently humble and unassuming in personality and stature throughout the show

It is difficult to convey how good the concert was, as no photo could’ve captured the mysterious atmosphere and the moving music that was at the centre of it all. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, even though we are not usually the concert type.

The concert tour wrapped up its last stop in Portland (OR) in early April but here is hoping that they will bring it back on tour soon!
