Magic Survival is an amazing mobile game with unique, dark-creepy visuals. The objective is simple: survive as long as possible to the attack of waves of monsters. The game progressively increases its difficulty by bringing in stronger monsters every time the death bar appears and when it ends.

As of the date this article was published, this game is only available on Android. I updated this guide with version v0.923 of the game.

Magic Survival Short Review

Usually, finding a good mobile game is very hard to me. The seas of the Google Play Store are enormous and full of cheap garbage games. This game made by LEME, magically appeared in my recommendations one good day. I was attracted by the mysterious and creepy, visuals and I loved the scribble style of the animation.

Once I started playing it, it was really easy to understand what I had to do: survive using the magic spells I had acquired and other elements on the field. To get magic spells, you need to take the mana orbs appearing randomly on the stage. You also get other items like healing hearts, runes, and chests with magic artifacts.

Pros:

  • Fast and easy to understand, you get quickly what you have to do.
  • Extremely entertaining until the point of obsession.
  • Unique creepy style in the visual aspect.

Cons:

  • Could be repetitive in the long term.
  • Irritating difficulty in the late game.
  • There is no music while playing, only the sound of the enviroment and the sound effects of magic and monsters getting hit by it. This isn’t really a bad thing, as the ambient sound is very immersive, but the music could add more to the experience.

Although the game starts very fast, if you want to keep up, you must read what every magic and artifact does and how it affects your statistics. The statistics of damage, critical rate and strike, and magic cooldown reduction could keep your head above for a good time.

The Basic Survival Guide of Magic Survival

Gameplay Experience

You kill monsters while moving around in an infinite field and survive the longest time possible; that’s it. The monsters will level up after the clock stops in the left corner of the screen.

A death bar will show up, announcing the strongest horde of monsters. In most of the stages, the big black and red monsters will show up at this moment, but also the special homunculus of the level. They’ll have increased HP and damage.

The first time this occurs is when the clock hits 6:00 minutes. Right after, the monsters increase in number and damage. In normal mode, you play until 15 or 18 minutes, with pauses at 6:00, 11:00, 15:00, and 18:00. In infinity mode, this “death count” will occur more often after the 18-minute pause: 20:30, 23:00, 25:30, 28:00, 30:30, and so on, every two and a half minutes. Surviving will depend on your magic spells and artifacts, especially after 30:30, when the game really wants to get rid of us.

You unlock the infinity mode after beating normal mode on every level.

How do you get magic?: Mana Orbs and Mana Bar

This is the main way to get magic spells and level up. There is a blue bar on the top of the screen, which represents the recollected mana from the orbs. Each time you level up, this bar will fill more slowly.

Mana Orbs

The mana orbs divide into three types: the small blue mana orb, the most common object on the field; the medium yellow orb, which appears at least once per four or five small orbs; the pink large orb, which appears very occasionally; and the green extra large orb which appears only after killing a giant monster. This last one will also heal you.

Other Objects on the Field

Aside from mana orbs, you can find other objects like runes, hearts, cells, and chests. This is how they work:

  • Runes: There are four types of runes: invincibility, orb attraction, increased attack & speed, and instant death of almost all enemies on the screen (except dark zones and giant monsters), and the elite monster rune, which gives you large mana orbs and a chest if you kill all the elite monsters before time runs out.
  • Hearts: These will heal you after a hit.
  • Cells: They sometimes appear on the field to give you extra money. There are three types of cells: the aquamarine, which usually gives you between 200 and 400 gold; the pink, between 2000 and 4000; and the black, around 30000.
  • Chests: Contain three artifacts that improve your damage, cooldown, number, etc., in general or a specific magic. There are two types of chests: the normal brown chests, which contain normal, rare, epic, special, or legendary artifacts; and the black chests, which contain only legendary artifacts. Make sure to choose the right options for your build, since artifacts are half of your strategy.

The Magic, Our Weapon to Survive

Every time you level up by collecting mana, three magic options will show up, and you can only choose one of them. There are 21 magic spells available. As your character (or subject) raises their level, the magic will do the same.

You can improve on 17 of these spells until level 7, and on four until level 5. As for your character, the maximum level is 100. I usually lose around 30 minutes when my subject is close to that level.

When you reach the max level of magic, you can choose one of three talents. These talents could add more damage, increase the number of proyectiles, reduce cooldown, or completely change the functioning of the magic (like turning electric magic into fire or ice into earth, etc.).

Here is a list of all the magic in the game, along with a short description of what it does. First, the magic spells you can improve until level 7 are:

  • Magic Bolt: This is the basic projectile you begin with. It can be improved with a special talent twice, being the only power to have six available talents where two can be chosen. The first time is at level 4, and the second time is at level 7.
Magic Bolt Icon
  • Flash Shock: A flash crosses the screen, damaging everything in one hit.
  • Incineration: Burns the enemy with flames. The fire will blast out in the direction you are moving.
  • Meteor: Cast a meteor from the sky to destroy the enemies.
  • Fireball: Shoot fireballs in random directions.
  • Lava Zone: A circle of lava appears randomly on the screen for a period of time.

  • Spirit: Summon a spirit that shoots projectiles.
  • Energy Bolt: Cast energy particles in the direction you are facing.
  • Satellite: A sphere that orbits around you and damages all it touches.
  • Arcane Ray: A beam comes out of your character in every direction to kill enemies.
Arcane Ray Icon
  • Cyclone: Cast a tornado that increases in size over time while it’s active.
  • Tsunami: Waves appear from the left corner of the screen, destroying everything on their way.
  • Frost Nova: An explosion of ice around you to damage your enemies while freezing them.
  • Blizzard: A rain of ice destroys your enemies.
Blizzard Icon
  • Electric Shock: An electric ray shoots out in a random direction.
  • Electric Zone: Creates an electromagnetic field that continuously damages the enemy.
  • Thunderstorm: Summons thunder from the sky, hitting enemies.

Magic spells improved until level 5:

  • Armageddon: A big explosion will destroy all the monsters on the field.
  • Cloaking: Avoid all damage from traps and monsters for a while.
  • Shield: It will protect you against monsters, but only by two hits. After that, you have to wait until the cooldown ends to get it again.
  • Magic Circle: Amplify your basic attack damage for a period of time.

Magic Combinations

You can combine two magics with specific talents. For example, Wrath of the Sky is the result of a combination of Thunderstorm’s talent Lightning Blast and Meteor‘s talent Meteor Shower. You can only get three magic combinations when your subject reaches levels 25, 50, and 75.

These combined spells are stronger and more sophisticated versions beyond their maximum common level. Unfortunately, only one of the two magics will be improved, while the other cannot be used anymore. You sacrifice one magic to strengthen the other.

Magic Combinations

Since the v0.920 update, the magic combations available are 46.

Skills

These eight passive abilities improve generic stats. In consequence, they’ll affect all magic. You can increase the attack, critical rate, size of the magic, HP, item pick-up range, movement speed, duration of some spells (Lava Zone, Energy Bolt, Arcane Ray, Cyclone, Magic Circle, and Cloaking), and reduce cooldown.

They appear randomly in the magic options among the other spells after leveling up.

Special (Magic)

In this new update, a new passive system has been added to your magic options: the special magic. This magic does similar things to some artifacts, like increasing attack or damage of some magic, reduce cooldown, etc.

Special Magic

The difference between this and the artifacts in chests is that you find them sometimes when you level up your character. There are 22 special magics available!

Growth

The passive growth system adds extra power after we reach the max level of our character, which is level 100. Growth is exactly the same as skills, but with different percentages of benefit and levels:

  • Intelligence (3% | 6% | 9% | 12% | 15% | 18% | 21% | 24%).
  • Fast casting (1% | 2% | 3% | 4% | 5% | 6%).
  • Vitality (10% | 20% | 30% | 40% | 50% | 60% | 70% | 80%).
  • Haste (2% | 4% | 6% | 8% | 10%).
  • Arcane Effuse (2% | 4% | 6% | 8% | 10% | 12%).
  • Concentration (3% | 6% | 9% | 12% | 15% | 18%).
  • Snipe (1% | 2% | 3% | 4% | 5% | 6%).
  • Explorer (10% | 20% | 30% | 40% | 50%).

Why are artifacts so important in Magic Survival?

Artifacts are other important objects to keep in mind when making a build. Each chest contains three different artifact options, of which only one can be chosen.

Artifacts will affect your number of proyectiles, magic duration, HP regeneration, movement speed, and much more for your subject, as well as the performance and functioning of a specific magic. Could also bring new ways of attacking, like causing explosions, lowering the percentage of the enemy’s HP, and reducing their size.

There are 150 artifacts divided into five categories: 23 normal, 34 rare, 39 epic, 27 special, and 27 legendary.

Some artifacts

In my experience, getting a nice build is a combination of what you get randomly while going with the flow and then redirecting it to the magic build you want to improve.

Understanding the Menu in Magic Survival

Main Menu

You can play a new game by tapping on “Start”. After that, you have to select a Class and then choose a Stage.

Classes

You always have access to Classes before starting every game. There are 24 classes that will improve your common attack, mana acquisition, reduce damage taken, and other stats; you can also boost a magic by giving it additional levels at the start of a game, increasing its damage, reducing its cooldown, or adding new functions to a magic. There is a Class for every magic, exempting Armageddon and Cloaking.

The only way to level up classes is by buying the research data cards in the store with gems. You obtain these after ending a game.

The more time you survive, the more gems and gold you’ll gain.

The Stages

Magic Survival counts with 12 different stages. At first, you only have “Array Zone” available and need to play for at least 15–18 minutes in every stage to unlock the next one. You unlock the infinity mode of that stage too. These are the stages in order of appearance:

  1. Arrays.
  2. Laboratory.
  3. Sewage System.
  4. City Outskirts.
  5. Arboretum.
  6. Academy (you have to pay 1000 gold to play in this one).
  7. Power Plant.
  8. Clean Room.
  9. Reservoir.
  10. Forest.
  11. City.
  12. Artificial Ecosystem.

Every stage has its own unique monsters and traps. Be careful while choosing your defense strategies. The general difficulty will also increase progressively with every new stage unlocked. The next one will be harder than the previous, but in my opinion, Laboratory, Clean Room (the first time), and Artificial Ecosystem are the hardest of all.

Research

This is where all the gold you collect will be spent, to improve the same stats I mentioned before in Skills (damage, critical rate, etc.), but also add new things like evasion rate, damage resistance, mana acquisition, or new forms of attack (such as an explosion every time you level up), among others.

The difference between this and Skills is that your investment here could be permanent and doesn’t need to be constantly leveled up from zero every time you start a game.

Research points

These points could be added to every Research. The cost will gradually increase with every purchase, so you can add, but also subtract, to increase a specific benefit while gaining more gold.

Test Subject

There are 25 subjects to choose from. Every one of them offers a special benefit. Initially, only Wizard is available. As for the others, you unlock them for 800 gems each. They all have a specialty that will improve a specific magic or stat, and most have an artifact included that will improve the same.

The Shop

Here is where you acquire extra gold and gems for real money. Also, you can pay to remove the ads and double your gold gains after ending a game. Spending your gems on research data cards will upgrade or unlock new Classes, and you can buy some gold with them too.

Settings, Encyclopedia, and Rank

The last three menu options in the game. In Settings, you can change the basic configurations (language, sound, etc.). Encyclopedia is basically the guide to the whole game, with the list and faculties of every magic spell, magic combination, and artifact. This section also contains some pieces of the lore. Finally, Rank is where you see the points of other players around the globe.

And that’s it! I enjoy playing this game a lot and hope you do it too. Let me know in the comments your opinion about it.
