Overview

Create an OpenAI account and upgrade it to ChatGPT Plus for access to the state-of-the-art GPT-4 AI model. GPT-4 is capable of advanced reasoning, and it’s publicly available for $20/month.

GPT-4 Beginner Series:

Create an OpenAI account for access to ChatGPT

  • Click Sign-up
  • Enter your email address
  • Enter your desired password
  • Go to your email, find the email from Open AI, and click the button Verify your email
  • You should see a message that says Email verified
  • Navigate back to https://openai.com/
  • Select Log in
  • Input your first name, last name, and birthday
  • Input your phone number and click Send code
  • Check the text message from OpenAI and type the code into the browser field

Congratulations! You now have access to the ChatGPT 3.5. It can be fun to try-out, but it’s not nearly as intelligent as ChatGPT 4. To get access to the truly intelligent AI, you’ll need to sign-up for ChatGPT Plus.

Upgrade your Open AI account to GPT-4

  • Hover over GPT-4
  • Click Upgrade to ChatGPT Plus
  • Click Upgrade to Plus
  • Complete the prompts to perform any extra email or phone verification and input your payment information
  • Once you’ve completed the upgrade, the GPT-4 button should be enabled. Hover over it to view the message cap for GPT-4 and any beta features that you have access to.

Congratulations! You now have access to the world’s most powerful public-access artificial intelligence. You can ask it to answer questions, write code, brainstorm ideas, write stories, and a lot more!

Bonus: Beta Features

The beta features will likely not be available when you first upgrade your account, but use ChatGPT consistently for a while and OpenAI will add them to your account. You may need to go into your settings and request access to beta features in order for them to be added.

The Browse with Bing beta feature allows GPT-4 to browse the web when answering questions. This allows it to get around the pesky message you will often see about GPT-4 having a knowledge cutoff of September 2021. The web browsing feature was extremely slow at first, but it has come a long way.

The DALL-E 3 beta feature is a major leap forward. It allows you to provide images in your questions to GPT-4, and it also allows GPT-4 to generate images as part of its responses.

Pretty amazing!
