- The purpose of the Advisory Panel is to provide advice to the NSW Anti-slavery Commissioner. The panel will provide advice in response to questions raised by or requests from the Commissioner, or on its own initiative.
- The Panel will support efforts by the Anti-slavery Commissioner to engage with people in NSW or otherwise linked to modern slavery risks and responses in NSW.
- The Advisory Panel does not have decision-making powers. The Commissioner has discretion whether and how to respond to the Panel’s advice.
- Members are appointed by the Commissioner, for 1 year (renewable).
- Members are expected to participate in the work of the Advisory Panel on a respectful and trauma-informed basis.
- The Advisory Panel will reflect the diversity of the NSW community and experience and expertise relevant to the discharge of the Commissioner’s functions.
- The working language of the Advisory Panel will be in English.
- The Advisory Panel members will be remunerated in recognition of their time, at a rate determined by the Office of the Anti-slavery Commissioner.
- Meetings of the Advisory Panel will normally be held quarterly, usually online.
- Advisory Panel business and discussions are considered confidential except as reported in any meeting record published by the Commissioner.
