Princess Haya of Jordan, on the run: after her rejection of asylum, how she ensures her protection
On the run to escape from her husband, the Emir of Dubai, Haya from Jordan fled to London. While she was not granted asylum in Britain, her half-brother, King Abdullah II of Jordan, allowed her to guaranteed her safety.
Haya from Jordan found refuge in London. Located in the highly protected area of Kensington Palace Gardens, the princess of the East fled her husband Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum. Upon leaving the United Arab Emirates, Haya Bint Al-Hussein took her two children, Al-Jalila (12) and Zayed (7), born from her marriage with the Emir of Dubai.
Claiming divorce after fifteen years of marriage, Haya from Jordan hopes to get custody of her children. At a hearing on July 30, the daughter of the late King Hussein of Jordan sought protection against forced marriage and brutality. Because the princess fears for her safety and not to live in the same scenario as Shamsa Al-Maktoum, one of the daughters of the Emir, and Sheikha Latifa who respectively ran away in 2000 and 2018. Both were intercepted and brought back by force.
In this difficult struggle for her freedom and that of his daughter and her son, Haya of Jordan, close to the British royal family, yet had to be denied a request for asylum. To counter this failure, her half-brother and fervent support, King Abdullah II, appointed her as Deputy Chief of Mission of the Jordanian Embassy in Britain. This appointment gives her and her children immunity and protection under the Geneva Convention as a diplomat. A first step to escape from Sheikh Maktoum in a diplomatic battle that promises to be complicated.
