Hey folks!

This is an update on my adventures learning and improving data science and data engineer skills while in quarantine. You can read the previous parts at these friend links:

Week 5 Livestream Recording: Twitch or YouTube

Week 6

I spent this week doing a week long technical interview. It wasn’t data science related, per se, as it was with a startup looking for life scientists and engineers. I’m not sure how I did: I recognized some of the problems as testing fundamentals in different subjects, but I haven’t been using much of those skills lately. Of the questions they gave, I liked the statistics, fuzzy concept thinking, and puzzle/algorithm ones most. You may be wondering why I applied to this job! Well, their recruiter reached out to me and I was thinking that I could help work on scaling their platform while working there. Also, I frankly need a job and I feel like I’ve been spinning my wheels networking with companies and/or applying to roles related to Data Science and Machine Learning now.

I did do another coding livestream! I was still using the Pokemon dataset here and continued doing analysis and thinking about what to make with the data.

There were quite a few technical problems this time, but you can check out the recording at these links:

If you’d like to join in, I’m thinking of streaming again at 6pm PST on Wednesday, May 13th at the following places:

Cool Data Science Stuff

There’s still plenty I want to be working on, and lots of data science/machine learning stuff I want to learn…

LOOK AT THE TABS, this is only one of 8 windows…

And in the hopes of cutting down my open tabs, I’m going to share some interesting stuff in my updates.

Did you know about Bloomberg’s AI efforts? https://www.techatbloomberg.com/ai/ I didn’t know much about what they were/are doing in this field (I always thought of their Terminals), but they actually have a very active GitHub https://github.com/bloomberg and they’re doing cool NLP stuff! I applied to positions there a few months ago, but they rejected me via form letter. My resume was different then, so who knows if I would do better now.

Outside of Data Science

I’m consistently making pretty tasty sourdough bread now!

I’m using the recipe here until I get to the sourdough discard that was rising and bubbling vigorously…can’t wait to try those!

I’ve been halving the recipe because it’s a lot of bread for just my brother and me. However, I discovered last night that I might prefer having a dough with higher hydration! So, next time, I won’t halve the water…I think I was doing that on accident a few times, to be honest.

I think that’s enough from me for now. Remember: take the stairs when you can, Git commit/push and wash your hands frequently, and stay positive! Those were reminders for me too.
