“Gear Acquisition Syndrome (aka GAS)”
I never heard that acronym before, but yes — I’ve been there. I shoot now with some pretty inexpensive gear, and frankly, it seems to work as well as the expensive stuff. The super subtle details can be improved sometimes with high end gear (sharpness, light control), but most of this is…
For a long time, I took the shutter speed for granted. I followed the rule of doubling the lens length — so a 50mm would be best at 1/100. But my pictures were still somewhat blurry.
I came to eventually realize, I’m just a lot less still than I thought I was. I don’t know why. I always shoot at 1/200 when not using a tripod, and I’m much happier with the results.
