Entry 3469
“I’m beginning to get questioned about the missing and out of sequence entries — what do I tell them?”
“Tell them nothing.”
“Nixon tried that and it didn’t work.”
“Then tell them it’s a matter of national security,” the VP replied. “It’s all on a need to know basis and they don’t need to know. If the whole world were to learn the details then Operation Enduring Digitarti would be doomed. Remember: you must control the media, not cater to the media. Had you listened to me rather than that mystery woman we’d already be finished.”
“But what about the fact that all of the entries made public have odd numbers?”
“It’s an odd war,” the VP laughed. “Let them think whatever they want to think.”
“I don’t think that’s good enough,” he replied as he reached for his telephone. “Now they’re talking about elections.”
“Fine,” the VP snarled. “Let ’em have their elections, we’ll just start another war. Who are you calling now?”
“The press secretary.”
