In the first article we’ve summed up why plastic pollution is the second largest environmental disaster, in the second article we’ve explored the BlockClean concept in high level.

Let’s dive into specifics on how BlockClean is providing incentives to people like you to join the global fight against plastic pollution.

Plastic is bringing us many benefits, it’s making our life easier in many ways and, today, we can hardly imagine living without it. This fact makes it hard for people to really embrace the consequences of using it while on the other hand people do not see a common goal against plastic pollution.

BlockClean application joins all efforts against plastic pollution problem under a common goal. Each participant’s effort is logged on a public “scoring list” called blockchain. This ensures that everyone knows, at any point in time, how well they are contributing towards prevention of plastic pollution.

This creates a global registry of efforts against pollution which enables proper rewarding mechanisms for all it’s participants.

By contributing through the BlockClean system you’re gathering points which are also called Tokens. All token distribution is public and tied to specific, publicly seen, criteria which makes the rewarding system fair and transparent.

You can collect 3 different type of tokens:

BlockClean Reduce token

BlockClean is hosting educational material on plastic pollution. Material is managed by all participants of BlockClean initiative. Think of it as Wiki of plastic pollution where material is constantly updated by the community so it always reflects actual situation on the topic.

Schools and other educational institution are encouraged to join the program and present the program to it’s pupils. School is awarded with 1 BlockClean Reduce token for each pupil it educates on plastic pollution.

BlockClean Reuse token

Anyone who creates products from waste plastic has the option to sell those products through BlockClean online shop. In this way artists, volunteers, workshops or any individuals get access to the right customers who are interested in purchasing “green” products.

Sellers of reused items, in addition to the payment from customer, receive BlockClean Reuse tokens as well.

BlockClean Recycle token

BlockClean is partnering with waste management / recycling centers where BlockCleaners will be able to drop off sorted plastic.

Based on the amount and type of plastic handed over to recycling center you will receive a specific amount of tokens.

So, what’s the point of these tokens?

These tokens are written in a special database called Blockchain. What’s special about it is that it’s public and it cannot be manipulated with. This ensures trust in the numbers which are presented: there is no way that John can cheat the system and write in the database he collected more plastic than he actually did.

This allows for a new business model in which businesses that want to show to their customers that they care about customers environment can do so in a very specific and transparent way — by obtaining BlockClean Certification.

BlockClean Certification

Business can, for a monthly fee, purchase BlockClean certification. By purchasing the certification they can be very specific as to whom they want to reward: either those who help reduce, those who reuse or those who recycle. Certification comes also in a form of poster with clear and specific way they helped make their customers environment clean.
