Building a startup is perhaps the most challenging thing you can do with your life.

If you build a great startup, there’s virtually nothing that you can’t do, or even discourage you. As Roy T. Bennett once wrote, “When you start living the life of your dreams, there will always be obstacles, doubters, mistakes and setbacks along the way. But with hard work, perseverance and self-belief there is no limit to what you can achieve.”

But building a startup is hard. Studies found failure rates between 70% and 90% within 5 years.(1, 2)

I’ve been there myself. While my friends were going out drinking, hanging out on the beach, partying and having fun, I was putting in sweat and tears to take my startup off the ground. Only to realize that it wasn’t going to work.

So why do most people fail at building a great business?

Why are most people on track to never start a business?

Because they don’t care to learn how.

“If you want something new, you have to stop doing something old.” — Peter F. Drucker
