Witchcraft

“Witchcraft traditionally means the use of magic or supernatural powers to harm others. A practitioner is a witch.” -Wikipedia

“[…] the exercise or invocation of alleged supernatural powers to control people or events, practices typically involving sorcery or magic.” -Britannica

Witch

“a person (especially a woman) who is credited with having usually malignant supernatural powers.” -Wikipedia

“a woman thought to have magic powers, especially evil ones, popularly depicted as wearing a black cloak and pointed hat and flying on a broomstick.” -Oxford Languages

Wicca

“Wicca (English: /ˈwɪkə/) is a modern Pagan religion.” -Wikipedia

“Wicca, a predominantly Western movement whose followers practice witchcraft and nature worship and who see it as a religion based on pre-Christian traditions of northern and western Europe.” -Britannica

  • The words “witch” and “Wicca” always scared those who associate them with Satan, but there is no real connection. Also, the two words are linked etymologically.

The easiest way to understand the difference between the two would be by understanding that witchcraft is a craft, Wicca is a religion that uses witchcraft. A lot of Wiccan identify as witches, but not all witches identify as Wiccan – words from a fellow witch –.
