BMW is a machinery with high technology components, its parts are also delicate. Therefore, one needs to be careful when handling it. Especially during maintenance, repair and servicing. Your BMW service and maintenance schedule determines the longevity of the car. An experienced BMW driver knows how powerful and smooth it’s driving is and this is as a result of proper maintenance and serving. Below is a guide that will help you maintain your BMW health and efficiency.

BMW Service

The Benefits of BMW Service

Like humans, your health is very important to you that is why you maintain proper health hygiene, the same applies to your BMW. BMWs are made up of various systems for proper performance. Individual systems use fluids and these fluids are what makes the system perform properly. With constant use of your BMW the fluids and all the parts eventually wear out and fail. So to minimize the need for repair it is very important to monitor the health of these parts that made up the BMW. Therefore, is it highly recommended that a proper service schedule is put in place? This leads us to the next point.

The Proper BMW Service Schedule

As there are different BMW models, its engines are designed slightly differently but the interesting part is that their schedule is similar. If you are uncertain about the schedule, it is best to refer to your BMW manual or call for the best BMW mechanic for guidance. Below is the BMW schedule for proper maintenance.

Engine Inspection

For every 20,000 miles, it is required to have a full inspection of your vehicle. At the due time, you will get an alert from the CBS system (Condition Based Service) on when to inspect your engine. Inspection of your vehicle can take about an hour and can be complicated. Your local BMW mechanic should ensure a visual inspection performance.

Brake Fluid

Brake fluid should always be flushed out every 30,000 miles or every 3 years. When BMW is used for performance, the fluid should be flushed out frequently to avoid excessive heat and pressure.

Oil Changes

There should be constant oil changes regardless of any claims, at least for every 5000 miles. New car models these days have increased oil change intervals. To enjoy long term care, changing of oil should be done more often than manufacturer recommendations. This is recommended because BMW oil distribution in the engine uses a vanos system. If constant oil changes are maintained engine issues will be avoided like having problems with PCV and excessive oil consumption.

Air And Cabin Filter

For safety measures, you will always get notifications from your CBS system when your air and cabin filter should be changed. It is always advised to change the air and cabin filter for every 20,000 miles. It is suggested that every BMW servicing, air and cabin filter should be checked. This is because to keep a functional engine air needs to be passed through multiple systems. Failure to do this the filter becomes clogged and this prevents the proper passage of air through the engine which might eventually lead to engine problems.

Spark Plugs

Your engine determines the replacement of your spark plug in BMW. If the spark plug is not replaced on time, they begin to misfire meaning they fail to ignite and fire properly. This misfire from the spark plug can damage the catalytic converter and this can be very costly to repair.

Timing Belt And Chains

It is very important to know when your belt and chains should be replaced in your BMW. Failure to know can cause major engine damage. Belt and chains should be changed for every 80,000 to 90,000 miles. When a timing change fails, the damage is less than a timing belt failure. The reason is that there is always a display signal or trouble code if the timing chain fails. So, this allows you to replace it before serious damage occurs. There are also other signals like clicking noise or your car running not too smooth or higher rotation.

Sunroof Drains

Water damage to your BMW interior and electrical system will cost you a lot of money to repair. So, due to the money, most dealers will gain from you after the damage of your sunroof drains, they don’t recommend making a scheduled cleaning of your car sunroof drains. It is recommended you make a scheduled sunroof drain cleaning every 2 to 3 years if you park in the garage and every spring before the rain if you park outside under the tree. The sunroof is not fully waterproof, so it may cost you more when you fail to schedule cleaning of your BMW.

Transmission service

BMW transmission repair and service varies with the type of transmission involved.

It is advised you check your BMW’s manual or trusted BMW mechanic.

BMW ECU (Engine Control Unit)

It is a very important component that is connected to every function of the engine. If the ECU fails your BMW will be undrivable. BMW ECU repair is complicated because it deals with programming therefore, a BMW expert is needed for its programming.

Antifreeze And Coolant Replacements

Coolant replacement should be done every 40,000 miles. The parts of coolant systems are the radiator, hoses, heater, core, thermostat etc. If coolant is left unchecked, particles begin to settle on it and might eventually clog and restrict the flow of coolant. If a coolant system fails it is recommended to flush and clean the whole coolant system.

In Conclusion

With all the information provided above, you should now have knowledge of how to properly maintain your BMW. BMW service and maintenance should be done regularly if you want your car to last and to avoid expensive repairs. Other items that are also important to maintain include batteries, brakes, tires and suspension components. Following the right maintenance and care of your BMW should not be difficult once you have a maintenance schedule.
