Hello, my fellow bloggers and readers,

This is Spartan Woman. I am a loving wife to a U.S. Army Infantryman, having served on both Active Duty and Reserves through many deployments over the last 28 years. My husband has become a senior leader in his unit and through my interactions with him and his Soldiers, I have come to have a great respect for the men and women serving in all branches of the military. I’d like to tell you their stories. As an American, you would be proud and inspired by the unsung heroes, Citizen-Soldiers balancing work/life/family and their professional military careers while they serve in your national interest.

Both my husband and I are big fans of movie “300” (based on Steven Pressfield’s book Gates of Fire), so therefore I chose the name of Spartan Woman. She possesses grace, beauty, confidence, and courage. Pressfield says the women of Sparta were the source of strength and heart behind the Spartan society. Their sharp wit, honesty, and athletic nature is occasionally scorned yet often admired by the rest of the Greek world.

No, this blog is not about sensational, titillating drama or confrontations among the military wives and spouses, reality TV’s got that covered. Nor is it about Soldiers rebelling against their ranking officers and going rogue; it is just not as awful as Hollywood wants us to believe. I can’t promise you all the stories end happily, but it’s not going to be a tear jerker, either. It’s about actual, inspirational people leading real lives and getting it done.

You will meet a Soldier and experience his life story. Together, we will travel around the world to different locations from California to the Pacific Rim and the Middle east, Europe and Africa… I won’t give away all the secrets, you might hear about recent interactions with North Korea, trekking in mud with the British Special Forces, or celebrities doing appearances with the troops, like E!News’ Jason Kennedy and Maria Menounos.

Piqued your interest? Hope to see you next week and that you find their stories as motivating as I do.
