As we’ve learned in the first part of this series, the global greenhouse gas emission is at an all-time high. In order to avoid polluting the planet, Zero Carbon Project is aiming to utilize alternative energy sources which do not produce these damaging gases. But utilizing “green energy” is only a small part of the big picture the team behind the project has in mind. Let’s dig deeper and find out what the USP of Zero Carbon Project really is.

How it Works

Renewable energy is already established. There are various ways of using green energy and people are starting to more and more switch their energy supplier to those who produce energy the clean and environmental conscious way. However there’s a catch. The average energy supplier which produces energy through renewable sources is most of the time more expensive than the traditional fossil fuel based energy suppliers. This often times is seen as a huge barrier for the average person. The energy prices in 2018 are everything else but cheap so switching over to an even more expensive source can lead to some financial risks individual household will be facing. That’s where Zero Carbon Project will come into play.

Be smart about your energy suppliers

The Zero Carbon Platform is aiming to solve both of these problems. The platform will be designed similarly to a supplier portal in the real world with the mere difference of acting between business and customers (B2C) which usually isn’t the case for a supplier portal (it’s normally only relevant for B2B interactions). However, the structure is quite similar: Energy producers can contact Zero Carbon and pay a fee for being listed on their platform, participating in the competition of offering the best energy prices for the end-users of the Zero Carbon platform. Due to the variety of energy suppliers (think off solar, wind, water power etc.) people can choose from individual suppliers depending on which is the best fit for their energy needs. Everything needed to switch energy suppliers will be handled through the platform, allowing users to directly complete the necessary contracts with the chosen energy supplier.

Energy suppliers using fossil fuels? Are they allowed to offer their energy on the Zero Carbon market?

Fossil fuel energy is not prohibited, however it’s penalized in order to regulate the energy prices on the platform and favor zero emission energy alternatives

Even though other energy suppliers which use fossil fuels can use the platform, they have to offset their emission levels by offsetting them through a payment fee of international carbon credits. Energy suppliers which generate energy through environmental friendly sources won’t face this fees which acts as a great equalizer on the supplier side, avoiding cheap and “dirty” energy to enter the market. Look at it like this: The additional fees necessary to offset the elevated emission levels would simply prevent fossil fuel using energy provider to “dump” the energy prices, giving alternative energy providers the chance to compete on the Zero Carbon platform. For this reason, users will see the best possible prices while at the same time have the possibility to choose from several green energy sources.

But wait, there’s more!

Users will also be rewarded for choosing these energy suppliers. In order to pull this off, Zero Carbon integrated a platform intern token called Energis token. In order to keep these parts short and sweet, we’ll have a look at the individual operational scenarios for this token in the next part of this ICO review series!
