Over the past two decades the world has seen the first results of it’s ever growing environmental pollution. In the past 18 years we’ve lived through the warmest 17 years since the recordings started 138 years ago. The main driver for this are the ever growing population, cities and industries that fuel the consumerism of the people. With the main focus being money, environmental consciousness is often times neglected in order to maximize the profits of companies, whole industries and even whole countries.

The non-renewable resources such as coal or oil are being harvested tirelessly. The process of harvesting these fossil fuels as well as the usage of those resources drift is taking an enormous tool on the planet. The huge amount of CO2 emissions is causing the planet to heat up and is indirectly impacting the ozone layer. Countries are relentlessly producing these emissions (see table 1) by burning fossil fuels for transportation, electricity and energy. The following figure displays the distribution of the US biggest CO2 producing segments.

Figure 1: 2016 annual emissions U.S. among individual sectors (Source)

As we can see, the US put out 6,511 million metric tons of CO2 in 2016, a gain of 30% over 2015 as displayed in table 1.

But why are whole countries not seeing the damages that are done to the environment and look for alternatives? Well, on a global scale countries which use more expensive alternative fuel sources may increase the costs and/or slow down the production rate which would logically negatively impact the countries performance in the global economic market.

At least that’s what everyone is thinking.

What if I told you there are alternatives that are LESS expensive while simultaneously dramatically reduce the emission levels?

What if I told you there is a way how this problem can be tackled and solved by combining forces to achieve a singular goal?

What if I told you there’s a team working on this exact problem with a fitting solution in mind?

That’s exactly where the Zero Carbon Project comes into play — and we will find out how it works in the next part of this ICO review series!
