Fight or Flee
NaPoWriMo 2023 — free verse — poem 5 of 30
fight or flee
our priority is “us” or “me”?
we’ve been running in circles
with no guarantee.
when we finally get there
will you even want me?
fight or flee
I push, you tug
at odds, but calling it love
(would it be too much to ask for a hug?)
can we get back to that place
where we were once warm and snug?
fight or flee
is it time to give up?
have we had enough?
what is love but a hiccup
along the road
to break
up.
