The above quote by Robin Sharma summarizes the thrust of this article.

According to a Harvard 2020 study, one of every 3 U.S. adults is obese. Furthermore, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention , being overweight increases the chances of developing:

1. Coronary heart disease

2. Type 2 diabetes

3. Hypertension (high blood pressure)

4. Dyslipidemia (for example, high total cholesterol or high levels of triglycerides)

5. Stroke

6. Liver and Gallbladder disease

7. Sleep apnea and breathing problems

8. Osteoarthritis (a breakdown of cartilage and bone within a joint)

As Josh Billings said, “Health is like money, we never have a true idea of its value until we lose it.” This article will help you keep your health.

Most overweight people know that it is dangerous to be overweight and want to lose weight. The reasons why they might fail to do so can include a:

1. Preference for the taste of excessive amounts of fat, sugar, and salt

2. Habit of eating junk food from sources such as vending machines .

3. Dependence on crash diets instead of on healthy, lifelong eating habits.

4. Belief that they can make exceptions to healthy eating habits during the many holidays, birthdays, and other celebrations and social events throughout the year.

5. Belief that exercise can make up for a bad diet.

6. Habit of eating to relieve anxiety instead of using more healthy stress management techniques

7. Belief that women can never again weigh what they weighed before they became pregnant.

8. Belief that they can find neither the time nor the motivation to stick to a consistent exercise program.

Although it is true that some people have a harder time losing weight than other people, a person’s body type should not be the reason for giving up and refusing to exercise and eat sensibly. No body type is well served by a sedentary lifestyle and poor eating habits.

Being overweight is sometimes brought on, at least partially, by an excessive exposure to food porn One reason for the epidemic of overweight Americans, especially children, is the advertising efforts of the food industry. Eating habits established in youth can last a lifetime.

Those who decide to lose weight should monitor their weight loss progress by frequent use of methods such as:

1. Weight scales.

2. Tape measures.

3. Clothing fit.

4. Mirror inspection of their bodies.

5. The way they feel.

6. Comments of others about their appearance.

Some people who are not motivated to maintain a proper weight might deride people who are motivated. The unmotivated people might say that people who are motivated are “picky eaters” or “self-centered” As Eleanor Brown said, however, “Self-care is not selfish. You cannot serve from an empty vessel.”

My book has a lot of good information on exercise for health.

How do you feel about proper weight maintenance? What do you think about special diets?
