Disclosure: I am not a financial advisor. The ideas presented in this book and all the coming articles are personal opinions and for entertainment purposes only. You (and only you) are responsible for the financial decisions that you make.

I am here to give you advice, from one millennial to another, on how to become a millionaire. Like all things in life, good things come as a result of practice, persistence, consistency, grit, and determination. There is no such thing as a “get rich quick” scheme, and if you claim that there is, you either have some incredible odds or you are doing something very illegal (in which case, stop).

Along the path you will find things that work, things that do not work, you will succeed, you will fail, and you will make money by spending and investing money. You will need to take calculated risks — where the pros outweigh the cons — to help drive your financial decisions. This book is not meant to prophesize how or when you will make your first million, but it is meant to serve as a guide on how to get there. When I was younger, my dad used to repeat two words: “balance” and “control.” I did not think much of these two words, but as I grew older and started making financial decisions for myself, I learned just how important and how relevant these two words are. With just these two words, I learned to balance my financial statements by balancing financial risks with financial conservatism, and I learned to control my money and make my money work for me.

Taking the opportunity to learn and to educate yourself on the importance of money is a vehicle to empowerment and will give you the ability to provide for yourself and for others. Money is a valuable tool because it gives you and your loved ones the opportunities you would not have otherwise.

I outlined the book with chapters that act as pieces of advice that worked for me. I will end this introduction by making something very clear. Money is not happiness and it cannot buy happiness. The intangible things in life — compassion, love, and kindness — are the truest forms of enlightenment and happiness one can achieve.

The title, A Millennial’s Guide to Becoming a Millionaire: A Memoir and A Guide for Those Seeking,” was left open-ended for you, the reader. Use the advice given in this book and the financial freedom gained to guide you on what you may seek.

I want to congratulate you on writing the first chapter of your financial journey. Enjoy it. Once you grab the reins and learn to take control of good old Ben Franklin, the experience can be liberating and even fun. I hope this financial journey brings you peace of mind and fortune.
