📢Indian Stock Market Timings

Trading on the stock market can only be done during certain periods in India. Retail customers must carry out such transactions through a brokerage firm between 9:15 am and 3:30 pm. On weekdays.

Most investors buy and sell securities listed on the major Indian stock exchanges, the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE). The timing of the Indian stock market is the same on both of these major stock exchanges.

📢The Timing of the Indian Stock Market is Divided into Three Segments:

Pre-Open Timing

This session lasts from 9am to 9:15am. During this time, you can place an order to buy or sell securities. It can be further divided into three sessions.

9.00 a.m. — 9.08 a.m.

You can place orders for any trade during the opening hours of this Indian stock market. These orders are settled first, so the order entry takes precedence when the actual trade is initiated. Requests made during this period can be modified or canceled as needed. This is beneficial to investors and they cannot place orders after this 8 minute period during the pre-opening session.

9.08 a.m. — 9.12 a.m.

This segment of the Indian stock market timing is responsible for pricing securities. Price matching orders are placed with corresponding demand and supply prices, ensuring accurate trades between investors buying or selling securities, respectively.

The determination of the final price at which trading will begin at the normal Indian stock market timing is done through a multilateral order matching system.

Price matching orders play an important role in determining the price at which a security is traded during the normal session of Indian stock market timing.

However, the benefits of modifying an already placed order are not available in this session.

9.12 a.m. — 9.15 a.m.

This time serves as a transition period between the timing of the pre-open and the normal Indian stock market. During this time, additional transactions cannot be ordered. You also cannot cancel an existing bet already made between 9:08 am and 9:12 am.

Normal Session

The bilateral order matching system is volatile and causes some market volatility that ultimately reflects in the security price. To control this volatility, a multi-order system was designed for pre-opening sessions and incorporated into the timing of the Indian stock market.

Post-Closing Session

Indian stock market closing time is marked at 3:30 pm. No exchange will take place after this period. However, since the closing price is decided during this period, it will have a large impact on the price of the opening security on the next day.

📢Stock Market Closing Time in India can be Divided into Two Sessions –

3.30 p.m. — 3.40 p.m.

The closing price is calculated using a weighted average of the prices on the stock exchange starting at 3 pm. — 3:30 pm at the stock exchange. The weighted average price of the listed securities is considered to determine the benchmark and closing prices for sector indices such as Nifty, Sensex, S&P Auto.

3.40 p.m. — 4 p.m.

This period is the time after the stock market closes when you can bid for the next day’s trade. Bids placed during this period will be confirmed if there are suitable buyers and sellers on the market. These transactions will be completed at the stated price regardless of changes in the market price at the beginning.

Therefore, an investor who has already bid can achieve capital gains if the open price exceeds the close price. If the closing price is higher than the opening price, you can cancel the bid during the narrow hours between 9:00am and 9:08am.

📢The Overall Stock Market Business Hours in India can be Demonstrated in the Following Table.

Aftermarket Orders

Please post this time frame. Transaction cannot be executed. However, the investor may place aftermarket orders assigned at the opening price of the next day for the securities of the selected company.

‘Muhurat’ Trading

The Indian stock market is a religious festival that is celebrated nationally in Diwali, so it is usually not traded in Diwali. However, there will be an hour trading session from 5:30 pm. 6:40 pm, which is said to be auspicious.

📢How Can You Invest In A Stock Market?

Investment in the stock market can only be made through a brokerage firm for standard customers. Orders for certain securities can be placed online, and stockbrokers with direct investment access can process requests with a T + 2 settlement buffer period.

However, since the stock market is volatile overall, you should carefully analyze the companies listed on the BSE/NSE before investing. Not only does it provide a complete analysis of various companies, but you can also look for a good stock investment platform that makes it easy to buy stocks.

Although the stock market timing in India is from 9:15am to 3:30pm. Some corporate securities can also be ordered even after the aftermarket is closed. Also, mutual fund NAV trading will occur after the market closes on that day. The price is determined by the final value of the stock price for each closing time.
