Entgra IoT Server, previously branded as WSO2 IoT Server is one of the first open source IoT and Enterprise Mobility Management solutions brought in to the market. The new Entgra IoTS version 3.5.0 focused more on mobility enablement and management, has incorporated powerful features related to Kiosk Management. You can now convert your Android mobile device or tab to a Kiosk device with the new updates on Entgra IoT Server!

Additionally, it includes the capabilities to configure your kiosk device to have multiple user logins. This would be essential based on the use cases of your business.

Refer Part 1 of this story to learn why you should invest on kiosks. Lets learn a bit about the modes available in kiosks before moving on to setting up multiple users users in Entgra EMM.

Single User Kiosks

This shall be applicable for Kiosks available in a public setting such as digital signages at hubs, airports and etc.

Multi-User Kiosks

The solution provides the facility to add and maintain multiple user accounts to a kiosk. It can be defined whether the user needs to be authenticated during login or has the possibility to simply switch between accounts without authentication.

— Example :-

At a shopping complex cashier, where there will be a supervisor and a trainee employee operating the device.

  1. A Supervisor with a specific role, would be prompted with a Sign In page which requires the user to sign in with his/ her credentials. He may have the access to multiple functions, applications and various insights.
  2. Similarly, Operator user shall be able to navigate to the relevant account of the kiosk without signing in, when the supervisor has logged out from his/her account.

The applications available in a multi user kiosk can be restricted based on the login user account. Certain applications may not be available for a user based on the settings provided at the user creation.

How to set up multiple users in Entgra EMM?

  • Navigate to Policies.
  • Enable COSU Profile Configurations by clicking on the corresponding toggle button.

  • Define apps for the primary user where you can add more than one, after separating from a comma.
  • Add applications for corresponding user by selecting the Add User Apps.

(Note: All the relevant apps need to be available in the App Store. As the app management and distribution is handled by App Store.)

Multi User Configurations

When successfully configured and created the kiosk displays the screen of the primary user.

  • It contains the apps which was set for the default/primary user (if any).
  • Device battery level, brightness levels, date and time is displayed in the main profile.
  • It shall display a login where users can either simply login or enter credentials based on the set up.
Screen of the Default User

When the user logs in successfully, the applications which was configured for the particular user is displayed.

  • When the users are logged in to a secondary profile, a Sign Out button is displayed.
  • If the user is idle for some time it can be configured to run media until the user becomes active.
Screen of a Secondary User

As the applications of the device can be restricted based on the user levels it limits users to carry out functionalities based on users or user groups. This will assist in protecting business data of the organization.
