1. KEY MOMENTS

Special Independence Celebration

On the 1st of October, we celebrated our 62 years of independence. At TIIDELab we had our celebration on Friday 7th. It was an exciting event as we all dressed up in traditional and formal attire. Part of the main event was to debate on whether it would be beneficial to include the youth in political affairs. It was quite an interesting debate as I was able to listen to different opinions and thoughts on the matter, some agreeing, some disagreeing, and others being in-between thoughts.

We ended the debate agreeing to include the youth in political affairs to an extent where their views would have great impact in the governance of the country. Later we took some group pictures with the anniversary cake made for the occasion.

TiideLab Music Day

One of our task on the 21st was to share ourselves in groups in order to create a theme song or an anthem that could be used to portray what it is like to be a TiideLab fellow.

My team chose an afrobeat style of singing and talked about the many things to expect in the fellowship, the struggles and the wins, most especially our gratitude to all those who work to make the program possible. I also listened to other team wonderful songs as the all put in effort-in coming up with lyrics and which instrumental to use.

2. TIIDE-HR β€” Project Update

We have been working tirelessly to make this project successful, from the frontend team to the backend team. From the backend, we were able to create a fukky functioning and accessible database for our platform. We have also been able to link our database to the frotend pages.

Last month we worked on our:

  1. Building new endpoints for the frontend pages
  2. Modifying the previous endpoints
  3. Testing and deploying our API for consumption
  4. Consuming endpoints from the frontend
  5. Converting more pages to React components

In our subsequent work-throughs, we hope to finalise the main endpoints and implement a notification system to our platform. It has been a long journey however, we are seeing the results and very happy with them.

3. Technical Skills Experiences β€” (5.0)

Application Program Interface (API)πŸ‘¨πŸ½β€πŸ’»

Mr. Kenny and our coaches, taught us various useful backend concepts that have aided us to work on the deployment of our platform. We built APIs, multiple database models and gathered more understanding on how to add logic to our implementations. We covered:

  1. API documentation
  2. Endpoint design
  3. API and Endpoint testing

This month, we shared tasks between ourselves aiding each other to work on our team projects in order to maximise the time spent and advance further in the projects.

4. Soft Skills Experiences β€” (5.0)

Public Speaking
Business Side of Software Development
Appreciative Communications

Those were the topics for last month Friday Meet-ups.
One of the classes I found very interesting was that of business side of software development. I learnt valuable points that will help me when i dive into the business side of my journey.

Public speaking and appreciative communication are very important. Being able to convey thoughts, ideas, incentives clearly to listeners is what will aid them understand clearly what I offer as an individual and as a developer. Mr aderoju shamsudeen explained these topics in detail which has helped me in presentations at school and interactions with people I meet.

Closing Note

As the tiides are slowly winding down, i find myself more flexible with my time. Being able to focus on my final year in school and the final parts of this program. The journey has not been easy one bit, but the dedication of my teammates and all those supporting us have truly strengthened my dedication to outputing the most I can.

With that I bid you all ADIEU, until the final article of this series! β€” See you in the final article of this series Experience (6.0) πŸ‘¨πŸ½β€πŸ’»
