Divide and conquer…

WELCOME BACK to another installment of Ed’s TIIDELab Experience. A series where I take you through my 6 month journey in the Cohort 4 fellowship. If you missed last months article, read it here MY TIIDELab Cohort 4 Experience (3.0)👨🏽‍🚀.

In this article we will cover:

  1. Key Moments
  2. TIIDE-HR — Project Update
  3. Technical Skills Experiences — (4.0)
  4. Soft Skills Experiences — (4.0)

KEY MOMENTS

15th Head of House

One very exciting event that happened this month was my appointment as 15th Head of House (HoH)😄. For a week, my co-HoH Akinbo Olamilekan and I were given the privilege to see to the activities of the fellowship.
How did I find ourselves in this position? After participating in the Friday 9th, Wager task organised at the end of each meet-up, my partner and I won the task him in Lagos and I in Abuja.

My one week as HoH was nothing short of exciting. We decided to go with the theme of “Vibes and insha’Allah” with a hefty “God abeg”. Bringing as much aid and support to the hardworking fellows who were searching for relief from the pent-up stress.

Visit from Founder

During the same Friday meet-up we had the opportunity to meet the founder of TIIDELab Mr. Kadir Salami. He also discussed the importance of selling one’s self, and understanding the knowing one’s worth and impact. I genuinely enjoyed the manner in which we interacted on the subjects, and his delivery.

The fellows also contributed to get Mr Salami some an award plaque as well as gifts to show our appreciation for all that he has given to see to our success.

Mentorship Session

In small groups of 4, I had yet another brief interactive session with my mentor Zeenat Lawal, where we discussed our aspirations, challenges, revisiting our goals, and motivations as we are approaching the final sprint of our journey to self reliance at Tiidelab.

TIIDE-HR — Project Update

This last JavaScript sprint my team worked on various parts of our platform, from the general design aesthetic to the storage and dynamic usability of user information .

We worked on our:

  1. Form functionalities
  2. About Us page
  3. Dashboard design
  4. Dynamic data on pages

That’s a whole 7/11 pages. We equally started working on the functionalities such as storing data locally (as we are yet to link to a database server), and making the pages interact with each other.
In our subsequent work-throughs, we hope to implement ReactJs, NodeJs, and connecting a functioning database to our platform.

Technical Skills Experiences — (4.0)

Real world, industry grade applications 👨🏽‍💻

I believe it’s safe to say that main JavaScript concepts have been engraved on my fingertips. Thanks to Mr. Kenny, our coaches, and the dedicated technical support team, I have been able to implement various JS theoretical knowledge. We covered:

  1. Async & Await
  2. Promises
  3. Object Oriented Programming
  4. NodeJS

This month, we were finally divided into our various tracks — ReactJs for frontend and NodeJs for backend developers. I’ve been waiting for this split, as it helps us all be able to focus on our preferred tracks.

As part of the illustrious backend team 👨🏽‍🚀, we started learning how to work with NODEJS. It was challenging at first, especially when it came to the server side of Node. It is a relatively new concept to me despite my previous knowledge on data communication and networks.

Soft Skills Experiences — (4.0)

Critical Thinking Strategies
Professional Development
Product Pitch Strategies

Those were the topics for last month Friday Meet-ups. Our proficient teacher Mr. aderoju shamsudeen taught us how to understand our product, talk about it/sell it to others.

Some of our tasks during these classes included, pitching why I was the best coding for my partner 😄. I learnt how important it is to understand the value in others, and know what value you can bring to them. I also learnt how to deliver a product pitch regardless of the time or location — a very important ability when dealing with the business, and people relation aspect of tech.

Closing Note

September was yet another challenging month. I had exams to write in-between the learning sessions, studying materials, Friday meet-ups, and meetings with my teammates .
However, I was able o get work done and round up all major activities for the month. Starting a new concept is exciting as always. Next article I'll speak on my achievements in NodeJs🏋🏽‍♂️.

With that I bid you all ADIEU, until the next one! — See you in the next article Experience (5.0) 👨🏽‍💻
