Welcome back, my fellow efficiency aficionados! And to those who are new here, I’m Jeff, and I’m excited to share with you some tips and tricks that will help you build a world-class routine that helps you realize those lofty goals you have.

Routines run the world.

Creating, implementing, and mastering your own routine is the most critical step in achieving your personal greatness.

Every decision you make throughout the day drains energy from your body, the best way to save that mental energy is to automate as many decisions as possible through the use of habits. That precious mental energy will be incredibly useful for your deep work when you aren’t wasting it deciding what to do next.

Let’s take a dive into how I’ve helped busy professionals and entrepreneurs build a schedule that preserves their mental energy for the important work and not the daily monotony.

In the digital age, it’s more essential than ever to build a successful daily routine. A daily routine can help you prioritize your time, increase productivity, reduce stress, and achieve your goals.

Here are the steps to build a successful daily routine that works for you.

Step 1: Identify Your Priorities

The first step in building a successful daily routine is to identify your priorities. This involves taking some time to reflect on what’s most important to you. Consider your short-term and long-term goals, your personal values, and the things that bring you the most joy and fulfillment. Use this information to create a list of your top priorities.

It’s important to distinguish between doable and unrealistic priorities. Doable priorities are things that are both important to you and realistically achievable within your current circumstances. Unrealistic priorities, on the other hand, are things that may be important to you but are not achievable in your current situation or may require significant changes to your lifestyle.

For example, let’s say you have a busy work schedule and a family to take care of. Your doable priorities might include spending quality time with your family, taking care of your health through exercise and eating well, and staying on top of your work tasks. Your unrealistic priorities might include traveling the world for a year or launching a new business on the side.

By identifying your doable priorities, you can start to create a daily routine that aligns with them. For instance, you might schedule time for family activities, exercise, and work tasks that need to be completed each day. By focusing on these priorities, you can ensure that your daily routine is meaningful and purposeful.

It’s also important to note that your priorities may change over time. For example, if you experience a significant life event or change, such as having a child or starting a new job, your priorities may shift to accommodate these changes. In this case, it’s important to reevaluate your priorities and adjust your daily routine accordingly.

Step 2: Schedule Your Day

Once you’ve identified your priorities, it’s time to schedule your day. This involves creating a daily routine that includes time for work, rest, and play. Start by blocking off time for your most important tasks, such as work or exercise. Then, fill in the rest of your day with other activities that align with your priorities. Be sure to schedule breaks and downtime as well.

Morning Routines.

A solid morning routine is crucial in building your day. How you start your day is a strong indicator of how your day will go. For the best results, I would include: exercise, reflection, and learning in your morning routine. This doesn’t need to be lengthy: a 15-minute walk, 10 minutes of writing in a gratitude journal or meditation, and 10 minutes of reading.

Start Small and Be Realistic.

When it comes to building a daily routine, it’s important to start small and be realistic. Trying to overhaul your entire schedule overnight can be overwhelming and unsustainable. Instead, start by making small changes and gradually building up to a more structured routine. Be realistic about what you can accomplish in a day and be willing to adjust your routine as needed.

Embrace Flexibility

No matter how carefully you plan your daily routine, unexpected events and interruptions are bound to happen. It’s important to be flexible and willing to adapt your routine to changes in your schedule or unexpected events. Embracing flexibility can help you stay calm and focused in the face of unexpected challenges.

Step 3: Stick to Your Routine

Building a successful daily routine is one thing, but sticking to it is another. It’s important to create a routine that’s sustainable and realistic for your lifestyle. If you find that you’re struggling to stick to your routine, consider adjusting it as needed. It’s also important to be flexible and willing to adapt your routine to unexpected events or changes in your schedule.

Find Your Flow

Everyone has a different natural rhythm when it comes to productivity and creativity. Some people work best in the morning, while others are night owls. Pay attention to your natural rhythms and try to schedule your most important tasks during the times when you’re most productive. This can help you get more done in less time and feel more fulfilled throughout the day.

Create Accountability.

Share your routine with a friend or family member and ask them to check in with you regularly to see how you’re doing. Having someone to hold you accountable can be a powerful motivator.

Use a calendar or make a Google Sheets document to track how many days you have done your habits in a row. Build a streak you don’t want to break.

Eliminate Distractions.

Identify any potential distractions that may prevent you from sticking to your routine, such as social media or television, and find ways to eliminate them from your daily routine.

Your phone is one of your largest sources of distraction. Find a way to leave it outside of your office or work area when possible and you will watch your productivity skyrocket.

Step 4: Track Your Progress

To ensure that your daily routine is working for you, it’s important to track your progress. This can help you identify areas where you may need to make adjustments or improve your habits. Consider using a journal or app to track your daily activities and goals.

I created a Google spreadsheet to give myself points for meeting goals and to measure my progress. This can act as an added layer of accountability if you make your tracking mechanism part of your routine.

Reflect on your progress. If you feel something is working well or poorly, write about it. Journal on it during your morning reflection. It is remarkable, the solutions that you can find when you reflect on both your good days and your bad days.

Celebrate Your Progress

Building a successful daily routine is a journey, not a destination. It’s important to celebrate your progress along the way, no matter how small. Take time to acknowledge your successes and use any setbacks as an opportunity to learn and grow.

Step 5: Make Time for Self-Care

In addition to scheduling time for work and other activities, it’s important to make time for self-care in your daily routine. This includes things like exercise, meditation, or spending time with loved ones. Self-care can help you recharge and reduce stress, making you more productive and focused.

When your body, soul, and mind aren’t taken care of it is nearly impossible to persevere for extended periods. Don’t neglect your body for success. Self-care is essential because to live a fulfilling life you have to expect a lot out of your body and that means appropriately caring for it and giving it what it needs, even when that isn’t the easiest choice to make.

Building a successful daily routine is an essential step in achieving personal greatness. It will take time and effort, but the benefits are well worth it. By identifying your priorities, scheduling your day, embracing flexibility, creating accountability, and eliminating distractions, you can build a routine that works for you.

Remember to track your progress regularly to ensure that your routine is working for you. A successful daily routine can yield immeasurable benefits, including more time for what matters, increased productivity, reduced stress, and progress on your goals.

As you build your daily routine, consider reflecting on the following question: What are the top three priorities in your life, and how can you build a daily routine that aligns with those priorities?

Remember to be realistic, flexible, and willing to adjust your routine as needed. With dedication and perseverance, you can build a successful daily routine that supports your personal and professional growth.
