Conquer Sunday Dread: A Teacher’s Guide to Liberation
Sunday Dread. It’s a phrase that resonates deeply with many teachers, myself included. The looming spectre of another week ahead can cast a shadow over what should be a day of rest and rejuvenation. Through my own experiences and research, I’ve come to understand the various shades of Sunday Dread and the toll it takes on educators.
Understanding the Dread
For some, Sunday Dread manifests as a nagging sense of unease, a subtle reminder of the tasks and responsibilities awaiting them in the week ahead. For others, it’s a weighty burden, permeating every moment of their precious weekend with anxiety and overwhelm. I’ve heard first-hand accounts from fellow teachers who have been driven to leave the profession they once loved, citing the relentless pressure of Sunday Dread as a contributing factor.
Navigating the Cycle
Even those of us who strive to maintain a semblance of work-life balance find ourselves caught in the grip of Sunday Dread. We make plans, we set boundaries, yet the spectre of unfinished tasks and looming deadlines lurks in the background, eroding our ability to fully engage with the present moment. It’s a cycle of perpetual motion, where even our best efforts to disconnect are overshadowed by feelings of guilt and inadequacy.
Finding Solutions with EFT
But there is hope. Through my own journey, I discovered the power of Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), also known as Tapping. Initially drawn to EFT as a tool for supporting my students, I soon realised its potential to transform my own relationship with stress and anxiety. As a certified EFT and Matrix Re-Imprinting practitioner, I now offer support to fellow teachers seeking relief from the grip of Sunday Dread and other aspects of teaching within the constraints of the education system as it stands.
EFT has empowered me to break free from the cycle of survival mode and reclaim my life with intention and purpose. For years, I felt there was no other option available to me but to put up with it and carry on. Now, each day I choose to step into the life I want to live, with a tool that frees me from the constraints of anxiety and overwhelm. With support, I worked on the past trauma and experiences that had led me to where I had become stuck, and I’m committed to helping others do the same.
