A short story by Ernio Hernandez

The day was Ana’s. At last. All hers.

Hubby was off to work after turning a strange hue on vacation from dollar-store sunscreen.

As he left in a loaded Lyft, she flipped off her flip-flops and hopped on the sofa.

As the “King / Loading…” screen loaded, she skipped over the theme song.

As hubby’s kiss loaded up her lips, she rolled onto her side, smiling.

“Orange, knock-knock,” he whispered.

“Nnnh, orange who…”

“Orange you glad I didn’t say banana.”

The day was Ana’s. Alas. All hers.
