[A rant because I'm tired of "how to be a better writer" articles.]

Why is everyone so focused on writing better?
What is better, anyway? Isn’t it relative?
Are we meant to all follow a certain style?
Why can we not just write whatever we want? Whenever we want?
Regardless of what every one else wants?
Why can’t we let the words pour out of us as our fingers dance across the keyboard? Tap screen? Pen and paper?
Why do we have to watch our writing level, so that it appeals to others?
Why do we care so much about recommends?
Are you caring for the right reasons?
Are you doing this for you?
Are you doing this for your audience?
Is your only goal an audience?

People write for a million different reasons. There’s no right way. There’s no wrong way. If you felt the need to get some words — any words — on paper, then you have written something. You are a writer.

Congratulations!!

The requirements for being a writer are easy:

Step 1. Think of something to write. (Or if you’re like me, just start writing and see where it takes you.)
Step 2. Don’t worry about what other people want to see. This is YOUR writing, not theirs.
Step 3. Hit Publish.

You're done! Wow, see how easy it was?

Can we please stop trying to dictate what a writer is and just let them be? Let us be?

We love labels way too much.
