The difference between the Old Testament and the New Testament God — Part 3

Brace yourself! This is more of a teaching blog than an entertaining one. It may not be an easy read because there is more here than a normal, well adjusted person would normally want to know but it will be worth it. It is the detail which makes me a boring person that brings the Bible alive for me.

But if you happen to like what you read, there’s more to be found here.

[NOTE: Important words analysed below are identified with Hebrew/Greek transliterations into English and Strong’s Numbers so that whoever wants to can check them out — it is strongly recommended that you do. I use the Blue Letter Bible (https://www.blueletterbible.org/ )]

This is a five part series.

This Part 3 will use the Scriptures from both Testaments to show that the tasks completed by Yehovah, Christ and the Holy Spirit confirmed that the OT Yehovah and NT Yeshua/Jesus is one-and-the-same-Person.

Part 1 demonstrated, using simple Hebrew spelling and etymology that, at the Burning Bush, Moses was speaking to the God of the Old and New Testament, Who is one-and-the-same Person.

Part 2 used the Jehovah’s Witnesses’ Bible to confirm that the OT Yehovah and NT Yeshua/Jesus is one-and-the-same-Person.

Part 4, will examine why NT Saints have such a low regard for the loving kindness and mercy of the OT Yehovah and present a remedy for anyone interested enough to take it up.

Part 5, will examine the evidence provided in the Scriptures to give a different perspective as to the type of relationship the Christ desires with His Church.

The Trinity

Augustine is credited with saying, “If you deny the Trinity you shall lose your soul; if you try to explain the Trinity you shall lose your mind.” Well said, Augustine. The simplest way to describe the Trinity is, “Union but no fusion.”

But there are those who deny that Jesus is Fully God. These groups come under the general category of Unitarian that you can easily study on-line. The two most well known in my part of town are Jehovah’s Witnesses and Christadelphians but there may be more. Their doctrines often diverge but they agree on the issues that Jesus is not God, and the Holy Spirit is a force, not a person — even though the personal pronouns of the Latter are singular and masculine.

The arguments are easily extinguished by the three fundamental laws of logic.

The law of identity: P is P. Applied to all realty, the law of identity says that everything is itself and not something else.

The law of noncontradiction: P is not non-P. A statement cannot be both true and false in the same sense, at the same time, in the same place.

The law of the excluded middle: Either P or non-P. A statement is either true or false. There is no other alternative.

Expressed in another way. If A = B and C = B, therefore A = C.

The Scriptures mention tasks (for want of a better name) that were/are performed by Yehovah, Holy Spirit and Christ Jesus. It is recognised by both Jehovah’s Witnesses and Christadelphians that Jehovah is God. The table here shows that Yehovah and Christ do the same tasks. This is not surprising because Parts 1 and 2 of this series show them to be one-and-the-same Person. The table also shows that Yehovah and the Holy Spirit do the same tasks, so the same conclusion — even though there are a few gaps.

The same approach can be applied to the attributes, as shown in the table here — where it can be seen there are no gaps.

But, because Yehovah is Jesus, where does that leave the Father? This presents a quandary for Trinitarians but is a show stopper for Unitarians. One of the aims of this blog is to give a glimpse into the depths of the Written Word of God so it is deliberately left to any interested reader to find the Father in the Scriptures. He is there. He is not hiding. He can be found.

I just can’t keep a secret!

Matthew 7:21–23 reveals where the Father resides, “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.” If you are reading this, you have enough Bible knowledge to know that Yehovah/Jesus came to Earth and the Holy Spirit is at work on the Earth now. God the Father is in Heaven. There are several times the the Trinity is revealed in Entirety, Isaiah 6, Jesus’s Baptism, and Revelation 4 come to mind straight away.

The forgoing evidence has not been presented to convince any reader but to allow a personal decision to be made. There is much more to know about this subject. Perhaps you’ll pay another visit, sometime.

All Glory to the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
