The difference between the Old Testament and the New Testament God — Part 4

Why do NT Saints have such a low regard for the loving kindness and mercy of the OT Yehovah?

Brace yourself! This is more of a teaching blog than an entertaining one. It may not be an easy read because there is more here than a normal, well adjusted person would normally want to know but it will be worth it. It is the detail which makes me a boring person that brings the Bible alive for me.

But if you happen to like what you read, there’s more to be found here.

[NOTE: Important words analysed below are identified with Hebrew/Greek transliterations into English and Strong’s Numbers so that whoever wants to can check them out — it is strongly recommended that you do. I use the Blue Letter Bible (https://www.blueletterbible.org/ )]

This is a five part series.

This Part 4, examines why NT Saints have such a low regard for the loving kindness and mercy of the OT Yehovah and presents a remedy for anyone interested enough to take it up.

Part 1 demonstrated, using simple Hebrew spelling and etymology that, at the Burning Bush, Moses was speaking to the God of the Old and New Testament, Who is one-and-the-same Person.

Part 2 used the Jehovah’s Witnesses’ Bible to confirm that the OT Yehovah and NT Yeshua/Jesus is one-and-the-same-Person.

Part 3 used the Scriptures from both Testaments to show that the tasks completed by Yehovah, Christ and the Holy Spirit confirmed that the OT Yehovah and NT Yeshua/Jesus is one-and-the-same-Person.

Part 5, will examine the evidence provided in the Scriptures to give a different perspective as to the type of relationship Christ desires with His Church.

Introduction

I wonder if other people are as surprised to see that Jesus and Yehovah are one-and-the-same Person as I was? I also wonder if anyone’s opinion of both Yehovah and Jesus has changed as much as mine has. The question important to me is, “After reading my posts, do you have knowledge?” Knowledge is information that changes a life. Otherwise it is just interesting information and I have failed.

But the knowledge presents a quandary. Is Jesus really mean, but disguising it, or is Yehovah not so bad? Or is the One Who is the same today, yesterday and tomorrow subject to changing His Mind? The answer is in plain sight in the Written Word of the Living Word of God. And it is NOT hiding in plain sight. The Holy Spirit could not have been clearer.

So why do so many self-professing followers of Jesus have such a low view of the Goodness of God, Yehovah Elohim? Any professing Saints who does not have the absolute certainty of Yehovah God’s devotion to them oozing out of the pores of their skin have work to do. If your pastor has not taught this to you, find out yourself and teach the pastor.

SHORT ANSWER

Christian Nobel Laureate, Alexandr Solzhenitsyn, in his book, “Gulag Archipelago,” wrote, “The Bible is more known-about than known.” Unfortunately . . .

I’m open to correction (having no Theological Qualifications) but it appears that NT Saints who judge that Yehovah is cruel are Torah-fied because of bad teaching, which came from bad teaching, which came from bad teaching. … Abused people abuse people. For too long the lack of Bible literacy in the pulpit has been spreading scurrilous rumours about Someone the preacher has not bothered to get to know. (I feel the love.) Part of this is confusion about what exactly is the Law in Romans 6:14(b). There is a series of posts on this topic beginning at this link if anyone is interested.

The whole council of God.

I’ve heard it said (and once believed myself) that God was a misogynist. Then I read in Leviticus 12 that He requires the same offering for a girl-child as for a boy-child. Laying aside the reasons why an offering was required, this shows that He gives/gave the girl-child the same value as a boy-child. Now having this information, go and re-read all the commandments that appeared to be “against” women and you will find they were elegantly subtle protection in a misogynistic culture. I’ll leave you to do that for yourself, now you know the frame of mind you should be in.

The same applies to all the “nasty” things He does in the OT. Rather than be repulsed by judging God according to YOUR opinion, see if you can find a reason why such a Good God can do such a Bad Thing.

God is always eager to reveal Himself to all who seek His Face. He is able to breath life into a sterile relationship.

DIY relationship repair schedule.

  • Gather all the verses in the OT which says (in so many words), “God is bad.”
  • Gather all the verses in the OT which say, (in so many words), “God is good.”
  • Gather all the verses which say (in so many words), “Good things do not come from bad things, and bad things do not come from good things.”
  • Make a list of all the things God says He likes.
  • Make a list of all the things God says He doesn’t like.
  • Gather all the verses in which God, Himself, declares that He cannot lie.
  • Gather all the verses in which God, Himself, declares He does not change.
  • If you don’t understand the preceding posts demonstrating that Yehovah and Jesus are one-and-the-same Person I have not done a good job. Please try again until you get it.

Now cogitate on why the God of the OT could be any less loving, any less concerned about His Creation, than the NT God. Why would you say that the things He does/did makes Him cruel?

If you seek His Face during the cogitation you will experience the Principle of the Talents. He will give you some knowledge of Himself and, depending on what you do with it, will decide what to do next. He who has much will be given more. He who has little will have it taken from Him. He eagerly awaits you.

THE LONG ANSWER

There is a long answer but I don’t know if anyone is reading these posts so things will stop here. If you make a request and let me know how far you have got in your cogitation, the long answer will be posted. I make this stipulation because there are too many passive Saints. Everyone must earn their right to speak at the Bible Study by bringing something to the table. (I still feel the love.)

The forgoing evidence has not been presented to convince any reader but to allow a personal decision to be made. There is much more to know about this subject. Perhaps you’ll pay another visit, sometime.

All Glory to the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
