The year 2024 will see YouTube as a valuable tool for businesses to repurpose existing content, increase website traffic, and improve search engine rankings.

How can YouTube be used by businesses?

For context, YouTube is the second most popular website globally, after Google. It boasts over 2 billion monthly active users, with 30 million daily active users. Additionally, it’s the second-largest search engine on the web, with more than 40,000 search requests per second.

Nowadays, YouTube is not just a search engine, but a platform where users spend a significant amount of their time watching educational, entertaining, and inspiring content.

In this scenario, content marketing has become one of the most powerful tools to create loyalty among audiences, who are willing to purchase your products or services because they’re engaged with the value provided through this channel.

In comparison to the more ephemeral content available on other social networks, content marketing on YouTube has proven to be more effective.

Furthermore, when you invest in creating content for YouTube, you receive a return on investment that can extend for years. The powerful algorithm, in combination with Google, will boost the SEO for the videos that best respond to your target audience’s search intent. This allows you to generate organic traffic to your website without relying solely on advertising costs.

With all these benefits in mind, I would like to share with you 7tips to boost your business through YouTube in 2024.

These tips are the result of my more than 20 years of experience as a consultant and SEO content strategist for YouTube, as well as a content creator in the marketing, advertising, and entertainment industries.

1 — Create a YouTube channel that represents your company.

Creating a YouTube channel for your company is an important step toward extending and representing your company’s values, mission, and purpose.

Your channel should reflect how you want your business to be perceived and how it aligns with your branding and visual identity across other channels. It’s crucial to keep your audience’s expectations in mind and strategically achieve the value you want them to perceive.

Remember that your channel is not about your company or yourself, but about your audience and the content they expect to find.

Your banner, profile image, and thumbnails should have visual coherence and provide effective and SEO-optimized information about your channel. You can showcase your products or services in the banner, but it should not be invasive or promotional.

Rather, it should be presented as a sub-product of the content, more linked to a promise than to the product or service itself.

Don’t forget to add links to your company’s website and social media pages, and include a video teaser presentation on your channel. This will help your potential audience quickly associate with the formal usefulness of the content they expect to find.

2. Create a content strategy and be consistent.

Creating a content strategy and being consistent is crucial when it comes to publishing videos on YouTube. Regularity alone is not enough.

To improve your YouTube performance, you must think about your content strategy based on your business objectives. Start creating serialized content that responds to the most transactional phases of your funnel.

Design a strategic plan of several videos that respond to the needs or desires of your potential customers who are closer to purchase and are in more transactional phases.

Do not think of the content in isolation, but as if it were a series with different chapters, where each chapter drives the potential buyer’s journey towards the final conversion.

These “series” can have different formats, but make sure that the iteration of formats is not so drastic as to lose subscribers.

For example, if you own a company dedicated to marketing luxury homes, a series within your strategy could be “How did we do it?” where the presenter walks through some of the houses to be marketed, together with an architect who gives a step-by-step account of the process from design to completion. Another series could be “The House of Your Dreams,” where the host visits a recent buyer who is on the last leg of his journey from his old home to what will be the new home.

If you accentuate the emotional value, the viewer will not only see a house but will be immersed in a story that could be their story, and therefore, perceive the value, and be more likely to get in contact with the marketing agents.

The same applies to services. Think about what formats or series could account for the practical use and value of a certain service, packaged as a story and not as a simple informational sale.

REMEMBER: we don’t buy emotionally. Most of the time, we buy driven by emotion, and then justify it rationally.

Create your content strategy directed to your objectives, structure the videos in series, and choose a format that you can iterate after the analysis of your metrics to choose which of them is impacting more on your target audience.

Before starting a YouTube channel, plan your content, analyze competition and opportunities in the sector, and have a bank of videos already recorded that allows you to schedule regular and periodic publications without running after deadlines every time you upload a video.

It will be useless to publish content with a random frequency. Consistent regularity is essential to achieve your goals.

You can also think of your video series as “seasons” or “sessions” if you have other goals ahead of your business or company.

For example, if your business has sales peaks during the vacation period and another during BLACK FRIDAY, you may want to anticipate these dates. So, you could invest in creating videos for these two seasons. In each of them, you can make a series of eight long-form videos (one per week) and five short videos per day (25 per month) that you can extract from the same long videos and then reuse on other platforms.

These short videos may not help conversion, but they can increase the reach of the channel, reach new subscribers, and drive traffic to the longer videos, which generate greater loyalty.

3. Powerful consistent Miniatures

Thumbnails are a key component of any video content strategy. They are the first thing that the viewers see before they decide whether to watch your video or not. Thus, it is essential to make them captivating and intriguing.

As a designer, I have created thumbnails for various niches, industries, and creators, and I can say that they are not just random images.

It is essential to consider many factors while designing them. The thumbnail should be consistent with your brand identity and appeal to your target audience. To create a perfect thumbnail, it is crucial to analyze what your competitors are doing in your niche and what other creators in other niches are doing.

This prior analysis is essential before shooting any video or creating the content. I have observed that the ideas, titles, and thumbnails that are thought before the content, perform better than those that are made after the content has been created.

This is because it is easier to align the thumbnail with the content when it is thought beforehand.

The miniature must arouse interest, curiosity, desire, intrigue, or controversy, and to do so, it can make use of different visual resources. However, it should be coherent and correspond to the tone and identity of your brand and the audience you are targeting.

For instance, if your products or services are luxury, and are oriented to a high purchasing power audience, you should not use inscriptions, garish colors, or forced gestures in your thumbnail.

It could be perceived as “cheap”. On the contrary, if your audience is looking for promotions, offers, etc., you can use these elements or other similar ones.

At the end of the day, what you are looking for is to make your audience identify with that first entry to the content, which you will then validate with the tone, voice, and quality of the content that reflects the identity of your brand.

4. Titles and SEO optimization

Researching and using keywords with high search volume and low competition can help you position your videos above others. You can use tools like VidIQ, TubeBuddy, Ahrefs, or the search engines of YouTube or Google to achieve this. By doing so, you can generate traffic and increase your channel’s visibility on both Google and YouTube.

To achieve this, you need to place the keywords in both the titles and descriptions of your videos.

Additionally, you can integrate them naturally into your video’s script to allow YouTube’s voice recognition technology to detect the phrase and place it in your subtitle system.

It is important to combine SEO and copywriting in both the titles and descriptions of your videos.

While SEO helps you respond to search intentions or link-related content, storytelling and copywriting play a crucial role in other YouTube browsing functions. These functions allow users to choose what they want to watch based on what captures their attention.

Therefore, it is essential to combine SEO and copywriting without neglecting the content. Optimizing thumbnails, titles, and descriptions alone may not be enough if the content is not engaging or informative.

Fortunately, there are solutions to improve existing content without losing views or having to delete, hide, or re-upload videos. I will discuss these solutions in my next article.

5- Optimize your scripts

Optimizing your scripts is crucial for producing engaging and effective content. You don’t have to be a professional writer or hire one, but it is important to structure your content properly. One of the simplest structures to follow includes the following elements:

HOOK > PROMISE

DEVELOPMENT > TRANSFORMATION

CONCLUSION > REWARD

CALL TO ACTION > INVOLVEMENT

HOOK: This should answer the question that your title and thumbnail have promised to deliver. It should also open up a new conflict or challenge to keep the audience interested.

PROMISE: This should be followed by a promise that you will deliver on.

DEVELOPMENT: This should tell the story of a transformation that your audience can relate to and be intrigued by.

TRANSFORMATION: This should be progressive and keep the audience engaged.

CONCLUSION: This should provide a reward for watching the content and keep the audience interested.

REWARD: This should be something that the audience can appreciate and enjoy.

CALL TO ACTION: This should encourage the audience to get involved and take action.

INVOLVEMENT: This is the result of the emotion triggered by the perceived reward and the call to action.

For example, let’s say your title is “We Boost Sales by 90% with This Strategy in One Month.” Your hook could be “A Single Strategy that Took Us from 1,500 to 50,000 K Using CHAT GPT in One Month, Reusing Content.”

This answers the intrigue and opens up new expectations.

The development should tell a story of progressive transformation that your audience can relate to.

For example, “Our SEO Agency Was Growing Exponentially, But Little by Little, We Began to Realize that We Had Fallen into a Bottleneck.”

This should keep the audience engaged and wanting to know more.

The conclusion should provide a reward for watching the content and keep the audience interested.

For example, “Here Ends the Journey, But You Still Must Not Let Go of the User’s Attention.”

This should be followed by a call to action that encourages the audience to get involved and take action.

Overall, it is important to structure your content properly to keep your audience engaged and interested. Whether it’s a short 5-minute video or a longer 3-hour podcast, following this simple structure can help you create effective content that delivers results.

6- Educate, inspire, encourage

You have the option to communicate and provide free value to your users, or you can utilize your industry knowledge and experience to build trust with potential customers.

By providing valuable content that educates and benefits your audience, you can establish deeper connections and reduce buying friction. Creatively presenting your expertise can showcase the functionalities of your products or services and demonstrate how they can positively impact people’s lives.

An informed customer who emotionally connects with a brand is more likely to perceive value and be willing to buy even premium products or services.

Therefore, by educating and inspiring your audience with dynamic content, you can establish legitimacy and authority, which will ultimately lead to increased trust and customer loyalty.

7- Diversification of income through Youtube

Diversifying income through YouTube is a smart investment strategy. It’s not just an intangible asset for positioning or a traffic distributor to your website.

YouTube has become a platform for creators to exchange ideas and build communities. Companies that aren’t creative will struggle to create loyal followers and will face higher lead acquisition costs for advertising. The key is to reach an audience, nurture it, incentivize it, and build loyalty to generate recurring income.

With a loyal audience, you can diversify and scale your income through referrals, sponsorships, scaled products or services, collaborations, and more.
