Writing is an art. Here are nine ways to make your work stand out with FaithTech Institute. (And when you’re ready, pitch it our way!)

  1. Think about your reader. Pick someone you actually know, and like, a friend maybe, and write your article to them. Imagine them reading your article. It will give your article more of your own personality — that’s a good thing!
  2. Include a story or two. Give your ideas flesh and blood. Stories help readers connect their imaginations to your ideas. Who doesn’t love a good story?
  3. Use short sentences and paragraphs. Divide your writing into small pieces, keeping it well spaced and easy to read. Avoid run-on sentences they’re the worst.
  4. Create a short, catchy title. Win your reader’s attention. Make it count.
  5. Short articles are (usually) better. Wherever possible, be brief, succinct, and to-the-point. Keep your article around 600–1500 words. Of course, there’s always good reasons to break this rule, but make sure it’s good.
  6. Use clear headings. Catchy, well-placed headings break up your text and keep your audience engaged.
  7. Cite your sources. Anytime you refer to data, leverage other work, or insert a quote, credit the original source. Citations don’t just give credit where it’s due, they validate your own arguments.
  8. Include a high-quality picture (or two). Images can convey ideas, break up text, and inspire a feeling for your readers. Be sure to add some to your stories. In particular, add a header image just below your title. Cite all your images whenever necessary. Here’s a list of sites where you can find free images. Pexels is one we like.
  9. Strive for unity. We aim to uplift and encourage one another. You can still be provocative, but avoid language that is isolating, divisive, or harsh. Make sure you’d be okay sending this to the friend you’re writing for (see #1).

A Few Rules You Probably Already Know

  • If you’re pitching a previously published article, you must be the original author.
  • If another publication featured your article, be sure to check their dissemination policy.
  • No promotions. Our publication is for teaching, inspiring, and exploring.
  • Avoid foul language.
  • We cannot publish everything, but the guide above will help your work stand out.
