Update from Creating Sports Posters [Part 1]
If you’re reading this, thank you!
You’re reading one of my wins of the year. It’s a small win, perhaps a 0.01% win but a win I still cherish.
In my 1st medium post, I wrote about a few things from one of my design interviews. As promised in that write-up about designing more sports-related content, here are two designs I made for the 2022 Boxing Day fixtures.
A few notes:
As usual, I started by researching EPL designs, then looked at other major leagues in Europe. Spent a lot of time on Google this time rather than Pinterest. I also maximized the search filter on Instagram and Twitter.
I spent a lot of time researching for the perfect or close to the perfect image that fits into what I’m tryna create. However, I didn’t let this put me off. I really took my time. For instance, in the Leicester Newcastle design, I had to change the design direction because I couldn’t find suitable images to match my original idea.
It was a lot of fun researching sans-serif bold typefaces that fit into sport-themed designs. I’m still hunting for sports-themed fonts. I’m currently using “whatthefont” on mobile and as a plugin on chrome to identify fonts I really want to explore.
While trying to come up with the color direction for the background, I came across the branding [or rebranding] of the EPL. It was an informative read. Shout out to the designers and the EPL. As you can see, I added elements of the EPL branding on both designs attached here:
Thank you for your time and Happy Holidays!!!
