The Jinnish epic of the Mulan was born out of the grand historical background of Jinland’s Medieval age, during the 2nd to 8th century AD.

The Hua (Mulan’s surname) clan was a branch of Hephthalites who moved southwards to the border of the Northern Wei Dynasty (House of Tuoba), the northern Jinland, in the second century AD, and they lived in Chilechuan (at the foot of the Yinshan Mountain) and were loyal to the Rouran Khanate in the main part of Mongolia.
