3. Sell Online courses 📹

Do you have expertise in a particular subject that you’d like to share with others? then creating and selling online courses is a great opportunity for you.

If you were a teacher before and have experience then this would be very easy for you.

There are many platforms available for creating and selling online courses, that make it easy to get started.

Apart from these platforms, you can sell your courses on your own website without giving these platforms a cut of your money.

Many creators nowadays create courses in a cohort fashion, meaning they start a batch taking in a limited number of students for a month and then record the classes and sell them throughout the year without having to go live again.

This way, you don’t have to spend time teaching the same material every month.(this ain’t school)

You can even extend your course to offer 1–1 personal mentorship services after you’ve built up authority and trust.

Here are some examples of top entrepreneurs who follow the cohort approach:

Added advantage is that after students take your course, they would want to be part of a community and learn from you more.

As a solution, you can offer your students community memberships (example: Muslimumpreneur Club) and earn money through monthly subscription fees. [More about this in the ‘Run a paid Community’ section]

To create and sell online courses, you’ll need an online course platform to host your courses -(you can use Notion for that too ), a clear idea of your subject matter and the right target audience who want to learn.

Before buying a course, people expect to see who the teacher is, what is her expertise, her style of teaching, her accent (if course is video based) and want to be sure who they are learning from.

Therefore, to build trust among your audience you’ll need to consistently produce high-quality content in small chunks throughout your social media to show your expertise, experience and your teaching skills.

With a little dedication and hard work, you can turn your expertise into a highly profitable business.

Skills needed :

Your industry skills, teaching skills and Marketing skills.

Tools needed :

1. Notion (free) to host the courses,

2. LemonSqueezy (free) , Gumroad (free) or Payhip (free) to sell your courses,

3. A landing page (optional).

1. skillshare.com

2. udemy.com

4. Sell E-books 📕

Gumroad Ebook

Just like selling online courses creating e-books and selling them as digital products can be a great way to monetize your writing and earn a Halal income online.

Unlike in the past, when only major authors wrote physical books and sold them, we now live in an era where we can publish our ideas without needing permission from publishing houses or any other gatekeepers.

Also you necessarily don’t have to be an expert before writing a book.

As people switch to learning online, curating your knowledge as an eBook 📕 lets you teach hundreds or even thousands of people with little effort.

Creating an eBook is easy. You can type words in Notion and turn it into a PDF.

If you write about a big topic in detail, you have an eBook. An eBook could be anywhere from 10 pages to more than 100 pages. It’s really that simple.

Creating E-books is same as creating courses in your expertise minus the video.

Use social media or search engines like Google or Quora to help you determine what people are asking for. Simply search for “[your niche topic] eBook” and you’ll know if there is a demand for your eBook topic.

Creating and selling Ebooks could also be a great way to build your personal brand and establish yourself as an expert.

Skills needed :

Your industry skills, Writing skills, Designing skills (optional) and Marketing skills.

1. Notion(free)

2. LemonSqueezy (free) or Gumroad (free) or Payhip (free) to sell your E-books,

5. Sell copywriting templates 🖊️

Compared to other Digital products, selling copywriting templates is the most easiest, interesting, result-driven and a very lucrative 🤑 business.

Interesting because…. you will know it when you write copy 😄.

Copywriting can be a lucrative business for writers and marketers due to factors such as high demand, potential for high earnings, and ease of work.

But why do Businesses want a copywriter, if it is easy, you may ask !

Businesses often want to hire a copywriter because effective copy can be a reason for their success.

Good copy can help a business:

While it is possible for businesses to create their own copy, doing so can be time-consuming and may not produce the desired results.

Hiring a professional copywriter can save time and ensure that the business has access to high-quality, effective copy that helps achieve its marketing and sales goals.

So why might a business or professional choose to buy a copywriting template rather than hiring a freelance copywriter?

One reason is cost: templates are typically less expensive than hiring a freelance copywriter to create custom copy from scratch.

Additionally, templates can be a more efficient way to create copy, as they provide a starting point that can be easily customized to meet the needs of the business or professional.

Finally, templates can be a good option for businesses or professionals who want to create their own copy, but who may not have the skills or experience to do so from scratch.

Webflow.com Templates Page

For the past few years, no-code tools 🧰 have boomed the startup industry.

The reason is simple: they let anyone create apps and websites without writing a single line of code. That’s the power of no-code tools.

Moreover, Notion is also called a no-code tool since you can use it to make websites and blogs.

Startups leverage these tools to cut out their developer costs, as it’s now easier to create apps.

Designers have replaced developers in startups nowadays, as they can create apps and websites without the help of a developer.

You might be wondering how to enter this industry and how to sell no-code templates.

If you have good design skills and can design apps and websites in Figma easily, then learning no-code tools is just as easy.

You might also be asking, if everyone can build apps themselves with no code, why would they buy my templates? That’s a good question.

Many startups don’t want to risk themselves by getting their hands on something they don’t know about. Creating apps and websites is not just about design; it is also about UX and UI design, along with copy skills.

That’s why when they simply get any no-code template and use it, their app fails to make any sales.

Startups don’t want to do it for free, they just want to reduce their costs 💶.

So, they might replace a developer with a designer, and more smaller startups will replace a developer with good templates built by professional UX designers.

This is where your opportunity lies. You can create no-code templates for a variety of apps and websites, and the possibilities are endless!

Here are some ideas for no-code templates you can create and sell.

Websites:

  • Portfolio websites
  • E-commerce websites
  • Landing pages
  • Personal websites
  • Blogs

Apps:

  • Event Apps
  • Task management Apps
  • Social media Apps
  • Messaging Apps

and so many more.

If you have the skills and creativity, you can create and sell No code templates and make some great money doing this!

UX and UI design skills, Web Design skills, Specific No-code tool skills and Marketing skills.

Tools needed :

7. Writing blogs on Medium ✍🏼

Medium.com Homepage

If you have a passion for writing and want to share your thoughts and ideas with a wider audience, consider starting a blog on Medium.

Medium is a popular online platform for writers to share their content, and you can sign up for a free account to start publishing your own articles.

You can earn money through the Medium Partner Program, which pays writers based on the number of views their articles receive.

To start writing on Medium, you’ll need to sign up for an account and start publishing high-quality articles that will attract readers and potentially earn income through the Partner Program.

However keep in mind that you need 100 followers on Medium to be eligible for the Partner Program.

Why starting to write on Medium is better than having your own website ?

Writing blogs on Medium can be a great alternative to having your own blog website.

For starters, you don’t have to worry about the technical setup and maintenance of a blog website, as it’s all taken care of by Medium’s platform.

Plus, you don’t need to worry about SEO optimization and other aspects of running your own blog website.

Another great benefit of writing on Medium is that it provides an established audience. Medium has millions of readers, so your articles have a better chance of reaching a large audience.

With your own blog website, you would need to create an income stream from advertising or other sources, which can be a lot of work to set up and maintain.

However, the earning potential may be higher with your own blog website, as you can potentially monetize your website through a wider range of options, such as selling products or services, or offering premium content for a fee.

Overall, writing on Medium can be a great alternative to having your own blog website and is a good option for you as a beginner who don’t want to worry about bringing traffic to your website and the technical aspects of running it.

💡 My opinion:

Start and publish on Medium, then later start your own blog. Publish on both simultaneously to earn from both.

Make use of AI tools like ChatGPT and NotionAI while they are still free to help you with blogging. These tools won’t be free forever, so take advantage of them now and kick start your blogging.

8. Write paid newsletters 💌

Substack.com discover page

If you have a strong writing voice and a dedicated audience, you can write newsletters and monetize them.

Paid newsletters are a way for writers to share exclusive content with subscribers who are willing to pay for access.

Moreover newsletters are easy to write unlike blogs which take time to write.

If you don’t know what a newsletter is,

It is a subscription service where you send emails to people either for free or for a fee.

They can pay you monthly or yearly. For example, people could pay you monthly to get four exclusive emails each month or two emails each week as per your choice.

Paid newsletters are direct connections between you and your target audience just like having a community on Telegram or Discord.

There are many platforms available making it easy for you to send and monetize newsletters, such as Substack, Ghost and beehiiv.

You must be wondering “why would people pay for an Email ? I have never ever paid for one in my entire life

There are a number of reasons why people might pay for a newsletter. Here are a few:

  1. Expertise and insight: Many people are willing to pay for access to expert knowledge and insights on a particular topic. If you have a unique perspective or a lot of experience in a particular field, your subscribers may be willing to pay for the value you provide through your newsletter.
  2. Exclusive content: Some newsletters offer exclusive content or perks to subscribers, such as early access to articles, behind-the-scenes looks, or discounts on products or services. This can be a compelling reason for people to pay for a newsletter.
  3. Convenience: For some people, a newsletter can be a convenient way to stay up-to-date on a particular topic or industry. Rather than spending time scouring the internet for information, they can simply read your newsletter and get the information they need all in one place.
  4. Personal connection: Some people may be willing to pay for a newsletter simply because they enjoy the writing style or perspective of the author, and want to support their work.

Ultimately, the success of a paid newsletter will depend on the quality of the content and the value you provide to subscribers.

If you can offer something unique and valuable that people are willing to pay for, you may be able to monetize your newsletter.

Before starting a newsletter service make sure you have a strong Muslim personal brand else people would not find value in paying money to your newsletters.

How much can you charge for a Newsletter?

Its your wish but people usually start at $5 per person / month.

If you have just 1000 subscribers, you earn $5000 per month only from writing just 4 emails per month. Ain’t this easy money ?

Here are few creators who are killing it on Substack

There are many more people who are doing great on Substack and other platforms that run paid newsletters. However, they made sure to build a strong personal brand first and have an audience.

Skills needed :

Writing skills, Copy writing skills, Story telling skills, and Marketing skills.

Tools needed :

1. Notion (free)

2. A Newsletter service like Substack (free) or a email service like Mailerlite (free)

3. A form to collect Emails.

9. Affiliate marketing 🗣️

Among all the 10 ideas, this is the most easiest of them all 😆

Ever heard of earning money without creating any of the products yourself but simply by telling others how good a product you used was.

Okay! I will make this more easier for you to understand.

What is the one product that you keep recommending to your friends or family whenever they complain to you of a problem they have. That product that you talk for 15 min straight telling your friend the story of how that product X benefited you, transformed you and is keeping you free from the problem you had before 😍, and your friend at the end finally says “hmmm let me try and see” and you are like 😊.

What if I tell you- Instead of spending 15 minutes speaking on phone convincing your friend to buy product X, If you had written the same on a website like Medium or recorded a video and uploaded on Youtube you could have made money 💸.

No am not joking, seriously this is what is called Affiliate marketing.

It is the process of promoting a company’s product and telling the world how awesome it is and persuading others to buy.

When people purchase the product after hearing your review, the company will thank you by not just sending a “thank you email” but by actually paying you a share (20%-50%) of the product’s price.

And they don’t pay you just one time but for every sale made through your referral 🤯

Example: If you are promoting a Course that is $1000 and the creator of that course is giving 30% as commission. You would be making $300. If 10 people buy from you, you will earn $3000 🤯. Remember you did not put even 1% effort in creating the course, all you did was tell your audience your review of that course and how it helped you. 💁🏼‍♀️

Affiliate marketing is a referral-based marketing strategy in which affiliates earn a commission for promoting a company’s products or services.

This means that you can earn a commission simply by promoting products or services that you love, that align with your values, have used before and have got great results.

No the one’s who give commissions are not generous, they are just getting their marketing done cheaper.

Instead of hiring a full time marketer and paying for Ads, they are paying you a small commission.

Win -Win for both.

Also remember, It is essential to have a large audience on any social media platform before you can expect to make a significant amount of money.

Without an audience to read your reviews or watch your videos, it will be difficult to make a profit.

How can you leverage it as a Muslimah?

You may choose to promote Halal products or services provided by Muslim-owned businesses. This way, you can earn a Halal income while promoting products or services that align with your values.

You can promote all the different digital products that are mentioned in this blog, additonally SAAS tools like Notion, Figma, Webflow etc.

Affiliate marketing is generally considered to be permissible in Islam as long as the products or services being promoted are Halal and do not involve any Haram.

You should also not cheat and lie by writing fake reviews for products that you have not used yourself. This happens a lot online, so I remind you to fear Allah.

Although affiliate marketing looks easy, I would not recommned you to do actively but consider doing it as a passive income (not the main income).

Why I don’t recommend it as a main income?

Ask yourself- Do you want to leave a legacy like this?

Do you want to be remembered just like a affiliate marketer instead of a an entrepreneur that is here to make a difference to the Ummah?

How you can promote products ?

→ By writing review blogs about the products.

→ By writing on Social media like Twitter.

→ By creating videos in youtube.(without exposing your face)

→ By running Ads for products

Skills needed :

Copy writing skills, Persuasion and Marketing skills.

Tools needed :

1. Notion (free)

2. A Blog website (you can use notion as your blog website) or use Medium

3. A social media platform (Marketing)

Marketplaces:

1. partnerstack.com

2. refersion.com

3. Gumroad.com

10. Run a paid community 👥

Discord Discover page

As mentioned in the online courses section, you can monetize any of your community online.

A recent trend has seen more and more individuals launching online membership communities, aiming to bring people together around a shared interest.

If you currently run a group in whatsapp or telegram for free on a particular niche where you provide value, you are just one step away from monetizing it.

You may ask why would people pay for a group?

The answer is simple: If you are a person of value who values time and have deep insights on a topic, and there are hundreds of people asking you questions everyday in search of a solution, you deserve the right to monetize it.

You don’t have all the time in the world to sit and answer every question.

Additionally, if your group has more valuable creators like you, people get networking benefits.

People love making friends with other people of inherent value.

You don’t have to make your free group paid and chase away your tribe; you can have the free group and a separate paid group.

You just need to distribute resources accordingly. Provide your paid products at discounts to the paid group, spend time on voice chats, give them opportunity to promote their own businesses and help them with your valuable knowledge. You will not only enjoy doing it, but get paid for it as well.

Have you noticed the comment section of YouTube cooking videos / Skincare / Health / fitness videos where people after trying the recipes or before trying ask a whole lot of questions based on their personal preferences.

That’s a big opportunity for any creator who has established a strong authority on a niche business to convert that question answer space as part of their paid membership perks. Its almost like a mini personal consulting service at a cheaper price.

If you do Personal 1–1 coaching, this community membership will bring about many clients for you as they see how you answer their personal questions in messages or voice chats.

By charging fees, typically $20–$100 per month, entrepreneurs have created six-figure businesses around all kinds of topics.

I also have a plan to extend this community (Muslimumpreneur club) with a separate paid one in the future inshaAllah.

To sum it up, running a paid community is a great way to monetize your expertise and knowledge.

If you have a strong authority in a particular industry, people will be more than willing to pay you for your knowledge and advice.

With the right tools and resources, you can create a thriving and profitable paid community that will help you not just make your personal brand stronger but also earn some passive income.

Conclusion 🔚

These 10 ways are some of the easiest out there if not the best ones.

There are other ideas too out there but those will take more time and skills to learn and kick start your business.

These 10 are ideal for a Muslimah who wants to stay at home and earn by not compromising her priorities as a wife or mother.

Remember, no matter which idea you choose you need an audience to sell.

Without an audience no matter how good your product is, you can never make sales.

No sales → No money 💸

And you can only have an audience when you have a strong personal brand online.

So start building your personal brand from day 1.

The idea for writing for this blog is to show how easy it is to earn money in 2023 leveraging the power of internet.

Having said that do not jump and choose any of these before you zero in your purpose, your life goal and a strong WHY.

There are so many hundreds of thousands out there doing the above and earning loads of money.

Don’t become a blogger just to earn money.

Don’t become a designer just to earn money.

Don’t become a copywriter just to earn money.

Do you want to leave a legacy like this?

Instead learn and do copy-writing /designing/blogging as a means to reach your vision.

Use it as a medium to help and transform the Ummah.

Example: Elon Musk is an entrepreneur, he has great marketing and selling skills but he is not known for that, he is known for his vision of transforming planet Mars, he is known for bringing a revolution in electric cars.

Mark Zuckerberg had great coding skills but he was not known for that when Facebook was launched.

Malcolm X had great speaking skills but he was not known for that.

It’s the same for me, I have designing and copy writing skills but I do not want to be known for that.

I want to leave a legacy of helping Muslim sisters transform their lives, make them think beyond money and help them raise future leaders of our Ummah InshaAllah.

I will write how to find your purpose, your passion and goals in a detailed Mega guide. Until then do more research on these 10 ideas.
