Purchasing a lighting fixture for your above ground pool may seem fundamental, but if you want a quality product, you really need to think about it. While some people simply rely on outdoor lights or backyard lighting to light their pool, there are much better lights for above ground pools that can light up your pool, not just the yard around it.

One thing you should consider when buying a light is its power source. If you have a lamp to plug in, it can be dangerous to have cables everywhere, or you may not have a socket close enough to the pool. On the other hand, batteries can make your life difficult. You will need to charge them every two or three days, and if you are lucky. If the batteries are not rechargeable, they should be replaced once or twice a week, which can be expensive.

Another feature to consider is how the light connects to the pool. Floating lights are nice because they can be used in any pool, can be moved and are very easy to install and remove. However, they float around, providing uneven lighting to the pool. Lights that connect to the wall tend to be a bit more reliable, but they are not always of high quality. They can easily be ejected from the wall. In addition, they are sometimes not powerful enough to light the entire pool from side to side.

The most important aspect to consider when buying an above ground pool lamp is the brightness of the light. It must be bright enough to illuminate the entire pool. If your pool is small, it should not be a problem, but larger pools may need something very powerful or even a second light. Colorful lights are fun and stylish, but do not always provide a bright light. If brightness is your main concern, you should definitely get a bright white light. However, if you do not have children and want fun party lights for the mood rather than for safety, there are fun colorful light shows that can work just as well for you.

Different types of lights

While best above ground pool lights are simply installed directly into the pool wall or floor, above ground pool lights are a little less permanent. Manufacturers had to be creative enough to create a light long enough to be studied, but flexible enough to be removed when the pool is full. They have come up with two main solutions.

Floating lights

Many lights float around the pool. It’s a good idea because you can move them. You control where you want the light. They are also very easy to install and can be removed if they are not used. Floating lights are easy to maintain and use. If the light floats on the surface, it can illuminate more than water. It will be more efficient to light the surroundings. Swimmers will be able to see each other better over the water as well as under water.

Floating lights are not without drawbacks. They can be really embarrassing. They are splashed, constantly moving and blurred. The more movement in the pool, the more unreliable the light will be. It will overturn, capsize and move in general, which may affect its ability to fully illuminate a pool.

Wall lighting

The other popular solution is to place the lights on the edge of the pool. This configuration makes it possible to connect the lights (without batteries) and to keep them stable. Whatever the turbulence of the pool, the lights will stay in place, illuminating the pool in the same way.

There is also a set of problems with the wall lights. They can be difficult to install and remove. You would probably want to install them and leave them in place until you decide to disassemble the pool. Although different companies have developed different ways of connecting light to the wall, they all require a little more installation than floating light. With the light in a stable place, there is also the risk that a light is not sufficient to illuminate the pool. With a large pool, you may need to buy a second or third lamp, which can be expensive.

Conclusion

There are a limited number of above ground pool lamps on the market. There are some who settle on the sides of the pool and others that float. They can be battery powered or plugged. Some come out only white light while others can create fun and light shows along the bottom and sides of your pool.

The lights should be easy to install and disassemble, as above ground pools are rarely permanent installations in homes. Their accessories should just as easily be stored at the end of the summer.
