Trend of the Week- Statement Sheers

Florence Pugh at Paris Fashion Week was a vision. She sported a look that made us go this is not just the darling of the film world but fashion too. If you haven’t seen it, please look at the Valentino Womenswear Fall 2023–2024 collection. The Look

The look is soft sheer whites, pinks or purples, if you look at my Spring 2023 predictions you’ll see that pastels were a key component, so really be thinking this if purchasing. For the trend to pop this season, it has to be draped over well…hardly anything.

The Trend

The trend is Spring meets risque. It is giving a soft almost Victorian look contrasted with a daring raunchy undertone, making it the ultimate subtle / not subtle statement piece. The trend has been building for some years, if we rewind back to May 2019; Harry Styles donned the Met Gala’s Pink ‘Red’ Carpet sporting an elegant sheer lace shirt for the theme of Camp: Notes in Fashion. Now let's look at fashion in 2023, and see how this trend has stuck and evolved. Fashion is now exploring and challenging gender norms, and making it so a fabric like sheer which used to be seen as more classic feminine, is now used for all genders in the most fearless and courageous ways possible.

The Wider Trend

Statement sheers are leaning into a key theme this season — demure meets adventure. Think this and you’ll have some epic Spring Looks! My prediction is that the looks of March/ April will all be sophisticated with touches of drama. This season we are moving away from the silliness of winter and back into the more classical and elegant designs. Taking us through to June, when we will begin seeing crazier ensembles for the hotter months. But who knows this could all change, for now, let's get statementy with some sheers!
