For some people mornings are an absolute joy. There’s nothing better than waking up to birds chirping and the warm sunlight glistening in your eyes.

But if you’re like me, mornings are the opposite: Groggy, sleepy, irritated, hungry, etc. It’s a wonder that people like us can get to work on time, let alone get out of bed. The truth is for us, mornings will always suck — so here’s something to help it suck less. It’s coconut oil & coffee.

Yup — Coconut Oil & Coffee. Without sparing another second, let’s get down to why this combo might just save your mornings:

(No Brainer) Coffee & Caffeine is Good For Your Brain

Caffeine improves reaction time and logical reasoning. You’ll become more alert, more focused, and the terrible, sickly old-man attitude you have when you’re awake at 6 AM will disappear in no time. Plus, numerous studies suggest that caffeine consumption lowers the risk of Alzheimers. So simple summary? Coffee is good for your brain! This is an immediate boost of energy that you can actually feel, and who doesn’t want that?

Coconut Oil Contains The Best Form Of Energy For Your Body

Coconut oil is jam-packed with MCTs. Without getting too much into the science, MCTs are a form of dietary fat with the name describing it’s structure. MCTs are an extremely efficient source of energy for the human body — that’s because your body can begin using it in almost no time at all (compared to LCTs — Long Chain Triglycerides which is in most of our food).

In fact, athletes use it to increase energy levels during high-intensity exercise. Not only that but the consumption of MCTs has been shown to increase overall daily energy expenditure meaning you can end up burning more calories which may result in faster weight loss.

(Best For Last) Save Your Mornings — You Can Skip Breakfast Now.

There’s a lot of other health benefits I could dive into (ie. increased immune system, staving off infections, improved blood cholesterol levels) by eating coconut oil and coffee, but on a purely practical level one of the greatest benefits about the combo is this: you can skip breakfast! Coconut oil, being it’s amazing fatty self, has this ability to decrease hunger levels and increase satiety. When a study compared MCT eaters versus non-MCT eaters, it found that MCT eaters ate significantly fewer calories throughout the day — especially at lunch. It drives off the hunger pains allowing you to save your breakfast time and either (1) get a few more minutes of sleep or (2) get more done. Either way, you win!

Okay, fine, you still want your breakfast food? Have it for dinner.

You’re an adult. You can do whatever you like.

So long-story short, coconut oil and coffee is an awesome way to start off the day and if you need a little extra protein, try blending it with some vegan protein powder for an added boost.

Last note: I love coffee and numerous studies have shown it’s powerful effect on neural stimulation, staving off hunger, and long-term mental health. However, did you know that coffee comes from the Coffeefruit? Coffeefruit is a powerful food packed with antioxidants and natural caffeine but was discarded as waste for a very long time. We here at Frontier Nutrition want to change that so we’re now working on a research-based energy product for office professionals, entrepreneurs, and athletes.
