It took me 5 years to find a good job

I started looking for my first job on March 2013 and I finally find a decent one on October 2017. Phew! Well, that was difficult! And for someone who is concerned about it’s career, difficult it’s a diplomatic way of saying.

I finally found the job that meets my expectations. What were those goddamned expectations:

  • if I get hired for a role, I want to perform that role. For example, if I’m getting hired as a .net developer I want to be a .net developer
  • decent location: no warehouse office, nor apartment company or who knows what else. A standard, office building, as simple as that
  • work-life balance
  • decent salary

Please note that to me, even at the moment of writing, money comes last.

What was so hard that it took me 5 years? Long story short:

I got hired to a big company as an intern, I was fired since I was too committed.

I got hired to a tiny company as an intern, I was fired since I was not committed enough.

I got hired to a bad reputed company, I was resigned to a windows phone, which was at the beginning of it’s downfall. After a year, the client dropped it’s unpromising windows phone project, and I was fired right away.

Like all of my previous jobs, my earnings were tiny, but here I had the opportunity to work on a warehouse outside the city, and my boss had a challenging personality. In order to get to the office, I was walking on foot on plain field and and the dust was spread by wind on me. I also caught a lot of rainy days which made me really sick — both physically and metaphorically.

I’ve been fired three times in a row.

After 4 moths of my I moved to another city, I got hired to a huge company — I like large organisations, I’m not even close to kidding. My money issues, and ultimately my disease caught on my previous job were cleared.

The only issue was that I was not performing my role, and I could’d resign due a very complicated context. I had to stay there for two years.

This is my compressed story, the full version is here.

I finally got hired to Endava. I am delighted, this was what I looking for. My review could be found here. Unfortunately it is in Romanian language due the fact that the one from Glassdoor is not visible yet.

I am super excited about Endava.

Okay, it’s not the perfect job, but neither me — I’m not the perfect employee. Good enough, tough, and it goes both sides.

What’s next? About Endava, fell free to do your own research :-)

About me, well, you know what they say … “Don’t talk about plans, show results instead”.

Conclusion

I might be wrong, I may have modest standards, but after a false start of my career, I find Endava an awesome company. Yay!
