Daymond John’s, Rise and Grind, is a must read for entrepreneurial spirits. John’s work is filled with remarkable stories about a spectrum of successful individuals from serial entrepreneurs to school teachers to athletes to rappers who have found a way to rise and grind in order to accomplish remarkable tasks. Rise and Grind, is filled with an incredible amount of information that will undoubtedly give you tools to add to your personal grind, so you can be more productive and work towards your personal goals.

Daymond John gives snippets on his personal journey of failures and success throughout, Rise and Grind, which add a high degree of personability to the way he conveys his messages. He tells stories of running a promotional business which left him thousands of dollars in debt to stories of turning a living space in New York City into an AirBnb-like-business. Within these anecdotes Daymond prunes out takeaways such as the lessons he learned from managing people within his impromptu AirBnB hustle to learning to fail quick as a New York City promoter.

Any entrepreneurial spirit can takeaway a variety of lessons in each chapter and will feel a spur of inspiration from each story. One chapter that personally resonated with me was the chapter about Kyle Maynard. Kyle Maynard was born without limbs and given an unfair hand from birth. However, he still found a way to become a renowned public speaker and climb Mt. Kilimanjaro! If you are unaware of who Kyle Maynard is or his story of climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro take a look at the video below:

Gary Vaynerchuk: Check out his Youtube channel!

Another amazing example Daymond uses is Gary Vaynerchuk. Daymond describes how Vaynerchuk wakes up each morning and deliberately thinks of crippling memories to give him perspective prior to starting his day. Vaynerchuk uses a recurring dream of his family dying in a plane crash as an example of how he puts things into perspective. Although this strategy is not applicable to most, it’s ultimately an example of what can be done to give you clarity within your day.

My Recommendations:

If you already have an established routine that has rendered results for you in the past — this book can still be beneficial. However, for those who are trying to figure out a routine and grind, this book will pay the most dividends to you. I highly recommend this book for recent college graduates or high school graduates who are still laying the foundation of their routines, but the demographic spans way deeper than just high school and college graduates as anyone interested in self-improvement will find John’s work to be very valuable.

Takeaway:

If you are struggling to find your grind, purpose, or reason for getting up in the morning — this is the book for you. Daymond does a superb job detailing an array of different individuals to unpack their work ethic and their hustle to prune out why they do what they do and how it can apply to anyone looking to achieve their goals.
