Heading to Ethereum Devcon 4 conference and wondering how to get around Prague without using public transportation, wonder no more! Public transportation is also available, visit Devcon 4 Updates by Genny — Travel around Prague by Public Transportation for more info.

Uber, taxi and many local ride-sharing are available. My people on the ground and living in Prague recommend them in the following order, but of course, if you are familiar with one app, it might be easier to continue using that app.

NOTE: Looking for transportation from/to the airport, please view Devcon 4 Updates by Genny — How do I get from the airport to my hotel?

#1 — Taxify

Taxify is probably the best one and is even cheaper than Uber.
Taxify works precisely like Uber in terms of concept and mobile application.
Their drivers are usually more professional than Uber.
They often have more cars available than Uber.

For more info and to download the app, visit: Taxify

#2 — Liftago

Liftago app could be understood like a Czech Uber.
Each driver, not the platform, set the price. So you merely enter locations for pick-up and destination, and then you can select from a list of drivers based on price and rating.

You can pay cash directly to the driver, or you can save your payment card inside the app and use it to pay.

#3 — Uber

Uber is available in all areas of Prague, but it is known to be unreliable to and from the airport (for transportation from/to the airport, please view Devcon 4 Updates by Genny — How do I get from the airport to my hotel?).

Most Uber drivers in Prague understand basic English and the Uber app functions correctly in English inside Prague.
You can choose from UberPOP (UberX), UberSelect and UberBlack in most areas.

UberPOP: your cheapest option giving you a random car of any class and is the unregulated ride-sharing service. UberPOP is very similar to UberX in other countries, except that UberPOP drivers are not allowed to make a profit, only share the ride.
UberSelect: your best option for prices between UberPOP and UberBlack with costs approximately 30% higher than UberPOP while getting a nicer car and drivers that have higher ratings and know Prague’s routes much better than UberPOP.
UberBlack: your most expensive option giving you a professional driver with a luxury car.

#4 — Taxi

WARNING: Many taxis may try to rip you off with crazy rates if you hail a taxi on the street or ask one for a ride. Locals do not recommend using taxis unless you are using one of the taxi company apps.

Taxi Companies recommended by locals if using a mobile app to request one:

AAA

Remember that getting a reliable and cheap taxi in Prague can be a struggle, but locals have said that Modry Andel and AAA Taxi are usually cheaper than Uber, offer full money back if driver charge you the wrong amount, have 24/7 live dispatch personnel you can call (even through the web).

Rates:

  • The average taxi rate is 24 CZK per kilometer.
  • The average entry fee is 40 CZK.
  • Tipping is not included in the taxi fees.
  • Payment methods:
Most taxi found at the airport and train stations have payments terminals accepting international credit/debit cards.
But taxis found in other locations will vary in terms of payment methods.
