If you are a beginner in code, like me, before jumping with both feet into learning a programming language, how about taking a look at some careers in technology?

There are many languages on the list of the most used and required when looking for a job in technology, but before starting this long path of learning code, it is best to investigate which tech career has more to do with you. The list below is a good place to start your search. Why do not you take a look at some technology careers that are in high demand?

There are several ways to find out a bit more about a career before joining it. You can ask for professionals in the field, understand what the principal job tasks are. You can do a job search to check the required skills and average salary. You can follow some companies on LinkedIn to know about their culture and what expect from the work environment. But the most important is to understand which of the various careers in technology is the one that most identify with what you are looking for. And you need to have it clear before you roll up your sleeves and start working hard to position yourself in the job market.

It was one of the major mistakes I made in the last year. If you still do not know, I’ve been trying to learn code for over a year without success. And one of the reasons for my failure was my lack of focus on the career I would like to put my efforts into. So, for you do not make the same mistakes as I did, here is a list of some technology careers that you should take a look at to get started.

1. Developer

What exactly is a developer?

A developer is a key person behind all software applications. They are proficient in some languages depending on their job’s role, and these differences may classify them as a software developer, application developer, mobile developer, Web developer, among others. Although the primary job role is writing code, a developer will also gather other requirements for the software, like design or architecture, sometimes the software documentation and other tasks related to the development processes.

The range of salary can change depending on your location. I did a search in the glassdoor for the general “developers” job offers in the USA and Germany. The entrance level salary is quite similar, but there is a huge difference in the average and high position salaries. Of course, there are many things to consider in the quality of life of the employee that are not well represented in one specific number as a salary.

Salary

There is an enormous difference in salary range for a data scientist in Europe and in the USA. The entrance salary in Germany is about 39.000 euros/year when in the USA the low offers are about 101.000 dollars/year. It makes me think about what is really expected of a data scientist in the two regions, and if a just graduated person would have enough skills for such a vacancy.
