So, what do children really want?
1. Attention and Quality Time:
Children believe that when you spend time with them, you love them. They love those who play and spend time with them. That's why they cry when you drop them off or wince when nobody is there to play with them. Just to grab attention! When you give attention to a child, their love grows for you. So do children. Children love to spend time with their parents, from going to the cinema to playing indoor games at home. This fosters a strong connection between parents, caregivers, and guardians and their kids.
2. Love and Affection:
Children need physical touch and emotional connection with their parents or caregivers. Saying you love your kids is not enough; putting it into practice for them to see creates the magic. Children need to feel loved and cherished at all times. Creating physical touch during heart-to-heart discussions and playtime is essential for their emotional development. They need to see your affection, which doesn't necessarily mean buying them loads of gifts but showing your love in minor things like correcting them when they make mistakes or playing with them. Remember, love is not always expressed through gifts but how you unconsciously show it, and children can see it when you force it on them.
You should not forget minor actions like a kiss, a peg, a hug, a playful slap, etc… show something words can not really explain! You don’t know how far this might go in their lives and the way they really need them…
3. Validation and Praise:
Who doesn't love praise? Children love to be praised to boost their morale. Praising them makes them feel special. This action encourages them to do more. If you're a teacher, you'll notice that children love to be praised, and sometimes they hate any kid who gets more praise than them in a class. This creates competition among them! The one who gets the most praise tries to go the extra mile to remain so. Children seek validation and praise for their achievements, big or small, to build confidence and self-esteem. They don't want to be left out on this! So, give it to them freely because they want it for greater success.

4. Stability and Routine:
Children thrive in a stable and predictable environment free from fear and crime. This includes a daily routine that provides a sense of security to their minds and well-being, fostering their growth in all aspects. A slight disturbance of this may affect their minds and create a gap that may forever be empty. Children seek an environment like this. Ever wondered why children love playgrounds or excursions or Disney World?
5. Freedom and Autonomy:
Everyone needs freedom, and so do children. They need space to explore, make choices, and learn from their mistakes as they develop independence and self-reliance. Remember, no one likes to be controlled, so do your children. Giving them the opportunity to exercise their rights will not only allow them to learn from mistakes but also open the door to self-dependency. They like it when they are in charge. They hate it when you force things on them because if you do, they will blatantly refuse you. If you're a parent, you know what it means for your children to be strong-headed.
6. Play and Fun:
Children love play and fun places. That's why they like it in Disneyland with their friends, holding ice cream and jingling all around, smiling even with their broken teeth. They shout and cry and even want more... You should not forget that play is essential for your children's cognitive, social, and emotional development. Creating time for fun and enjoyment for them and you is something they really want and always dream of thrice in their lifetime. So, don't you ever forget that!
7. Good Role Models:
Children need role models in their lives, though finding one can be challenging in today's age. Good role models not only impact children's lives but also affect their future because what children see, they become by practicing. Therefore, as parents, caregivers, or guardians, you're the first role model for a child. Please be careful! If you're a good talker but forget to put into action what you said, then as a parent or caregiver, you aren't serious about being one because children learn from what they see and what you do. Positive role models are all children need all the time because they inspire and guide them as they grow and develop.
8. Open Communication:
Every kid out there needs open and honest communication with their caregivers, parents, and guardians. This fosters trust, understanding, and emotional intelligence. Though at times children can be tiring and seem not to understand all you say, good communication enables them to learn faster and build unending trust that you might not expect. Children really want to speak to someone with whom they can share and discuss all their fears, worries, joys, and big dreams. Open communication allows you to see through them!
9. Emotional Support:
Children struggle with mixed emotional feelings (good and bad). They need someone to discuss this side of their lives, which they really crave. Someone who will support them emotionally, give them guidance, show them empathy, and hug them when all hope is lost will lighten up their day and expectations. Children need someone who will not only tell them sorry but help them navigate their feelings to the utmost usefulness. Tell them how to control and adjust to certain conditions when needed.

10. Unconditional Acceptance:
Children are 99.9% free with whoever accepts them the way they are. Not the kind of person who strikes and judges them all the time. Not the one who curses and abuses them with the slightest provocation... They really want someone who accepts them without conditions. Doing this may develop their self-worth in a positive way, enabling them to work with a positive image. That’s why they hang out with friends who are in line with their values. That’s why they hang out with friends who don’t judge them. They can be themselves during those times without feeling lost. So, as parents, guardians, or caregivers, you must search for ways to bring out this relationship between you and your wonderful kids so they don’t feel lost at your presence! Why? Because they really need it!
