I recently fell down a hole in the internet and ended up having a play around with some mind mapping software. After a few hours of utter nerdery, I was reminded that mind mapping is one of the more underrated UX methods…

What is a mind map?

According to the Oxford English Dictionary, a mind map is:

a diagram in which information is represented visually, usually with a central idea placed in the middle and associated ideas arranged around it.

In short, a way of organising information. So you guessed it, a lot of the time I’d use it as one of my information architecture tools. But there are other purposes.
