Even though I make a full-time income from my writing career, I still write on Medium.

I started my Medium journey 2.6 years back.

before that, I was writing full-time — Self-publishing platforms, Fiverr, and so on. Even though I make a very good income from my ebook writing, I decided to try my hands at Medium blogging.

I was reluctant at first. I never did blogging before. I wrote mostly ebooks. Not many writers I see have a blog. I mean they do but that’s mostly abundant or with no updates for months!

So in my view only a few writers (self-published) do blogging.

Blogging Platforms I recommend for writers

Medium was my last experiment. Before that, I have tried many blogging platforms. I am listing here those blogging platforms that you can try along with Medium. I said along with the medium. Medium is a must for writers.

  1. Medium — My most favorite. I have two Medium blogs making me income selling digital products.
  2. Twitter — That is the next favorite to Medium. If you wish to expand your businesses to more platforms then Twitter should be on the top of the list.
  3. Reddit — There are many subreddits dedicated to writing, ghostwriting, and so on. Reddit is not a blogging platform. But this platform is a favorite place for writers. I started my Reddit journey even before Medium and Twitter.
  4. LinkedIn — If you are into ghostwriting, then make a writing gig on Fiverr and promote your gigs on LinkedIn. You’ll find your potential client on LinkedIn for sure.
  5. Personal website — This is not something I would recommend to newbies. You already have many things to do in a day. You have to create an online presence and most of your energy will go into content creation. If you have MONEY and can hire someone to do all website-related tasks then go with this option. Otherwise, put all your creative energy into writing and promoting your work directly on social media.

5 Reasons Every Writer Should Be Blogging

Perfect place for practice

If you are a newbie or even if not, doesn’t matter. The more you write, the more you become perfect. even after 10+ years I still feel I have a lot to learn. So, I still do blogging even though I make a good income from self-publishing platforms.

Increase in sales

I promote my ebooks using blogging platforms. You can read more about this here.

More opportunities

This was something new for me. I started my blogging journey so that I could get into a writing community. But that led to more and more great opportunities that I never thought of before. I got my first sponsorship 1 year back. I never thought companies would reach out to me. The lead was from Medium.

Community is the powerhouse

I wrote alone for many years. Writing can be lonely sometimes. I tried Facebook groups but that wasn’t worth it. Most of the groups I joined were just for direct selling. Not much value. But Medium, Twitter, Reddit, etc very large and active writers. I learned many tricks that I still use from the community.

Can help your odds with publishers or agents.

This is rare. I have heard only one story where a Medium writer landed a book contract. rarely do agents reach out to bloggers. But even if you get one opportunity, imagine the amount of traffic and exposure you will be getting. More traffic means more sales.

Conclusion

I’ll end it here for now. I hope this small piece will help you out. Whether you decide to do blogging or not, writing surely will open up many paid opportunities for you.

Writing ebooks takes time.

Doing marketing takes much longer.

The only thing that has helped me to build my ebook empire is consistency. You need nothing more than that, I promise.

See you soon.
