Explore Himachal Pradesh

Himachal Pradesh, spread over 37,033 sq km, is dominated by forests and green lands, cherishing the majesty of snow covered mountains. Shimla, Manali, Dharamshala, Dalhousie have been the first choice of tourists. There adjoining areas such as Bhagsunath, Mcleodganj, Rohtang Pass, Khajjiar and Kufri also get thousands of visitors each year. But a large part of this vast state remains unexplored by most tourists. Although it is not possible to jot down every place, since each village and each pinnacle holds some treasure, yet here is a quick list of the places of Unexplored Himachal that awaits.

Kasauli: Located at 1800 metres above sea level, this little hill station is not far from Chandigarh. It is perhaps the only town in HP that has preserved its cobbled streets and old style market. The major landmarks here are Central Research Institute, Manki Point, Kasauli Church, Bazaar, and a Distillery. It won’t be wrong to name Kasauli as mini Shimla.

Renuka Lake: The lake is one of the most beautiful water bodies, surrounded by lush green hills and isolated from the artificiality of the world. It is known for its association with Rishi Parshuram and Rishi Jamdagni, making it a holy place as well. There are a few temples on its banks. Tourists can enjoy fresh clean water and silence in this peaceful region.

Mashobra Naldehra: Mashobra is very close to Shimla and faces the highest mountain ranges. Cool breeze never leaves the beautiful village. Several resorts and cottages have opened here to cater to the people coming for chilled winds and warm sun. Naldehra is another 2km far from Mashobra. The belt brings out stunning views, sloping grasslands, orchards, golf course, horse riding and much more.

Chail: Chail is another serene place near Shimla with a multitude of activities for both young and old. The major places of interest in Chail are Kaali ka Tibba — temple on the hilltop, The Palace — a heritage hotel, Siddha Baba Mandir, Gurudwara and World’s Highest Cricket Ground. It is hardly three to four hours drive from Chandigarh.

Narkanda: Among the few Ski resorts in Himachal, Narkanda hold a special position. It is very close to the highest peaks of Himalayas, it is covered with centuries old Deodar forests and it is easily accessible from Shimla. Be ready to explore the meadows of Fagu and Matiyali on the way. Narkanda is also the apple trade centre of adjoining regions such as Kotgarh, Luhri, Kullu, etc. Trekker can hike to Hatu peak of religious and aesthetic significance.
