Frequently asked questions:

Ordered online at homedepot.COM with a Canadian credit card?

Can I use my Home Depot credit card anywhere in 2022?

Can i use my canadian home depot credit card in the usa in 2023?

I discovered another solution… I’m trying to order from homedepot.com (from Canada). I just crossed the border, less than 45 minutes from the store.

I have tried to ship the item to a store or to a US address (a Kinek point near us), but the problem is that HD requires a US billing address for each credit card purchase, so my order is rejected every time like that.

I tried to pay with PayPal but was denied because I am a Canadian PayPal customer.

I even phoned the store directly and asked them to order a special item for me and ship it to the store but they won’t do it…they said they have to pay in full upfront and it must be completed. card with a US billing address (although I can use my Canadian card at the store! …?).

(Side question: Is it really Home Depot? I mean, don’t they want our business?

Think of the lost revenue and worse, the group of frustrated customers that will throw them out… but I digress…)

Luckily, the rep I spoke to at HD mentioned that a gift card would be a way around the problem. But she also said that I had to go there in person to buy the gift card because they couldn’t sell it to me over the phone with a Canadian card.

Pooh. Then I tried to buy a gift card on HD’s website but they didn’t sell me one with a Canadian credit card. (On another note… Should I work so hard to hand my business over to Home Depot?!?!)

I finally discovered a solution. Home Depot Credit Cards uses an external e-commerce company (Cash Star) to sell and manage its e-gift card purchases. Cash Star accepts PayPal from Canadian accounts. So here’s what I did:

1) I go to HomeDepot.com, select the product I want, then go to the cart to find the exact order total.
2) I still click HomeDepot.com to get a US e-gift card. Buying a Home Depot (make sure to click on an e-gift card, not just a gift card) — took me to Cash Star;
3) purchased an e-gift card with the exact amount in my order;
4) get it delivered to my own email address (to me, from me);
5) pay for the e-gift card with PayPal (success!);
6) waiting for my e-gift (took about 12 hours to process the order);
7) Back to HD website, order and use my e-gift card to pay.

At this point, the credit card portion of the order form has been removed as payment is processed through a gift card. For this order, I requested in-store pickup (they still won’t allow you to ship to a Canadian address).

The site still asks me for my contact information (“Billing Information”) (including a US address) but they allow anything here because it doesn’t match the credit card to address verification.

It basically just needs a contact name and phone number to claim the order when it arrives.

I used my parents’ Florida address and home phone number (Canadian), and whatever address I can think of, a valid zip code should suffice (using Google Maps!) .

However, it seems rather ironic that HD was perfectly happy with my contact, 1,400 miles from the store, but rejected an address just 30 miles away…

Hope this helps some people with the same problem. It’s pretty frustrating that today a company the size of Home Depot can’t make the shopping experience easier for the 35 million customers who live right next door.

(New proposed HD tagline: “You can do it, we can help, but only if you’re not Canadian.”) Good luck!
