Updated!!

The last time I updated the bot was 6months ago. Since then, 2 new aquariums have started live-streaming.

In this update, I have included those 2 aquariums in the notification!

Introducing Aquariums

Seattle Aquarium

One is the Seattle Aquarium. The sea otters here are very easygoing and sometimes prefer not to be in the exhibit area. The official feeding time here is only once a day, but I’ve found that there are several unofficial snack times throughout the day.

Toba Aquarium

Another is the Toba Aquarium in Japan. They are my favorite sea otter girls!!

Kira & Mei are very talented. They can do lots of things, such as waving flags, spinning around, and jumping high, so it’s probably the most interesting sea otter live camera to watch.

I visited them in 2021, but we needed to wait at least an hour to see their feeding time in person — just like Disneyland. They are that popular in Japan.

Their live camera is the only one that doesn’t go completely dark at night, so it’s the only way to see the sea otters as they sleep at night.

Please make a donation…

If you are familiar with sea otters, you may already know this, but sea otters are an endangered species that have been listed on the Red List since 2020.

In my home country of Japan, there are a total of three sea otters, including the two at the Toba Aquarium, but artificial breeding is in a hopeless situation, so it is thought that in the not-too-distant future, Japanese children will no longer be able to see sea otters at aquariums. Sea otters are also banned from international trade and capture, so it is difficult for new individuals to come to Japanese aquariums.

Even on the west coast of the United States, where there are many sea otters, they are not in a safe situation. Every year, many sea otters that have been injured or orphaned are rescued.

Funds are needed to save sea otters. The Seattle Aquarium and Monterey Bay Aquarium’s YouTube pages receive donations. There are no fees, so all donations go to them.

Or, if you live in the US, you can make a tax-deductible donation to help the sea otters.

I believe that small efforts can become great power when combined. I hope that this bot will help to increase the number of people who learn about the wonders of sea otters, and that they will be removed from the endangered species list.
