Today’s reading: “The Ministry of Healing” pp. 246b-247b.

Abiding peace, true rest of spirit, has but one Source…This peace is not something that He gives apart from Himself.

Today we get to the nub of the whole “Mind Cure”. We discover where to get real “peace of mind,” the second component of complete restoration.

The last paragraph in today’s reading begins with the grand summary of mind-cure and the Bible’s principles of healing,

Christ is the wellspring of life.

Christ is what is needed by those whose diseases are “produced, and is often greatly aggravated, by the imagination.” p. 241. Those with “ungratified desires, disordered passions, and the condemnation of their own consciences.” Those without God, without hope.

But unfortunately they are often offered deceptive, selfish pleasures,

  • unnatural or unhealthful stimulants
  • indulgence in the lower appetites and passions
  • hilarity and excitement

I will leave you to contemplate what such pleasures may be, but there is only one source of abiding peace and true rest of spirit, peace of mind,

It is in Christ, and we can receive it only by receiving Him.

Our work, as medical missionaries for the discontented, desponding, dissatisfied, thirsting person, is to lead them to the “Wellspring” by teaching them, patiently, kindly, earnestly,

  • a clear knowledge of Christ
  • how the whole being may be thrown open to the healing agencies of heaven.

We will spend the rest of the chapter learning how to teach these things because,

When the sunlight of God’s love illuminates the darkened chambers of the soul, restless weariness and dissatisfaction will cease, and satisfying joys will give vigor to the mind and health and energy to the body.

The take-away principle for today is, God’s love received in the soul, heals the mind and the body.

So make sure people know of God’s love.
