Self-control. Only as this power is regained, can there be any real progress.

Today’s reading: “The Ministry of Healing” pp. 129b, 130.

Remembering that the 3rd part of our complete restoration is perfection of character (p. 17), we are given a powerful principle today,

The body is the only medium through which the mind and the soul are developed for the upbuilding of character. Hence it is that the adversary of souls directs his temptations to the enfeebling and degrading of the physical powers.

Self-control of “the tendencies of our physical nature” then is obviously essential if we are to develop this character. Our will and reason are to control our passions. God through grace is to control our will and reason.

Physicians are to strongly impress men and women:

  • Self-mastery, seen in purity (no bad habits or appetite), is a duty,
  • Mind and body are a gift of God, for His service, so look after them.

Did you get that, it is a duty! Ask, “Hasn't God given you a job to do? Do you think He will be pleased when you do a poor job because of your habits?

Perfect character is:

  • only possible with the power of Christ’s life (which we read about)
  • why Christ lived the way he did
  • a victory that Christ won.

So strengthen and improve your body under the control of your reason to win. Be fully surrendered to Christ. Use His life for power.

Then, as a physician, pass that on
