This is a post in a series concerning a challenge called 2 Months 2 Master: learn a difficult skill between 1 March — 30 April 2018, spending a maximum of 15 minutes a day on practice. Report every day on your learning process. We were inspired by Max Deutsch and his M2M. I teach first year students at LUCA School of Arts in Ghent, Belgium. All students have their own challenge. Mine is: do a one arm pull-up.

I ate bread and rice and sugar yesterday (lunch and diner) and it adds .8 kg to my weight today. O well, it is a small (and hopefully temporary) price to pay for a day of celebration and joy. (It was!)

The immediate signs of your body, the instant response to the food you put into it — it keeps surprising me. You do not feel it so much if it is a one time thing, but imagine you doing that thing over and over and over again, like most of us do during their entire life. I see young people walking around, every one of them with a bag of crisps in their hands, eating, walking, laughing, not a worry in the world. It is a very different sort of horror, where conscious self care is a galaxy far far away.

It is still surprising to me that I, on a “day of celebration” as I called it, celebrate with putting food in me that my body does not like. There is something there that still needs some work, haha. Shit, caught in the act. It does not make sense. But we learned our entire lives that you celebrate with cakes, and alcohol, and lots and lots of sugary food! That is a strong addiction.

Today it is King’s Day in The Netherlands. I am Dutch, and I have celebrated Queen’s Day for years and years. Now we have a king, a new day to celebrate, and it is such a distant memory, all of it. I realised that. I was a different person, in a different body, with mind functioning in a very different way than today. I do not want to go back to that person, I am totally happy with who I am today and the life that has formed around me.

Something totally different: I played an hour of badminton today, and I think I need more diverse workout. It is all a bit toO much of the same, too static. The moving around was killing me! Now that’s a message. Walking alone is not getting the job done, that’s for sure.

That brings me to the new challenge, because I want to start with a new, month long challenge on the 1 May 2018 (Tuesday next week!). I was thinking along the same lines as this hanging challenge, but I might rethink that a little bit this weekend. I will get back to you about it.

For now: tired, need rest. Bye!
