The journey through my practicum at Shaw TV Edmonton

Monday

I began helping Paul flip the studio set back to the one we use for Arts Talk. I’m excited for the opportunity when we are able to use the green screen.

After a fun Skype video chat with a couple of old friends, there was something that was suggested to me which I hadn't considered — learning Mandarin. We were on the subject of knowing a second language just so you have some context of the conversation. I’ll stick to learning French first.

Tuesday

The man in charge of the March episode of Community Producers — Doug Roxburgh — forwarded me a link to the YouTube video from Master Control (shout out to Alex!). My first crack at hosting for Shaw TV!

For the March episode of Community Producers, I am your host! Enjoy.

For the morning, Paul and I drove over to Sherwood Park for another taping of yoga. I was manning the cut away camera and I certainly had my workout.

Wednesday

Took a crack at directing once again with a new taping of Arts Talk.

Thursday

Basketball scrimmage at NAIT. I was originally assigned to handheld (camera 3), but Alex came over and offered me the chance to be switcher. What the hell I thought. We walked out to the truck and I sat down next to Tony (1st semester TV student) who was directing and I was readying my fingers on the buttons. Once I got the hang of it, it seemed pretty straight forward. As long as I don’t have to worry about too many dissolves the game will look great! Between Tony and I, I’d say we make a great team. Stoked for the tournament! I’m looking forward trying out different positions inside the truck especially and any of the cameras if they’re needing to be filled.

Book bought on Tuesday! I hate delayed tweeting.

Friday

iMEDIA17 Day One. There’s t0o much to say about the conference in this weekly post, so I plan to publish an additional story.

The Weekend

Saturday: iMEDIA17 Day Two

TBH, Sunday should’ve been Day Three of iMEDIA17.

I will publish a story recapping the social media conference! I haven’t been able to get around to it.

Wrapping it up

For Shaw TV Edmonton, I’m Cory Sellar. Thanks for reading!

Check out everything that’s happened up to this point:

Oh wait, there’s more! Week five, week four, week three, week two, week one and the first day. We’re about half way through now. Wow. Crazy. These stories from each week is not just for me, but for you and anyone else who wants to take a closer look at the different experiences one can witness during their practicum. Or better still, the emotions that have gone through one’s head during it all.
